X5, 2004 model, facelift, 3.0d or an X3, 2005, 2.0d. Both 'sport' spec.


The X3 is newer, 40mpg vs 30mpg, cheaper to insure, etc etc.
X5 is bigger, I suspect better build quality etc.


Which would you get / why? I thought I would share a very small report.

Last year there were 4 cars, and 6 people, this year... we were suppose to be the same.....

It ended up being 2 cars, and 3 people... hehe... was still an amazing time, and we are already planning next year.

Rich and I both agreed it was the best in terms of actually driving around the Ring. We need 12 laps each, which is the most we have ever done on a single visit.

Andy and I, started off from mine early Friday morning to meet Rich at Eurotunnel.

Arrived at the Ring, on friday evening to find it closed for Track Training.. and also raining very heavily. Not a good start.

Glad to report, Saturday and Sunday had an amazing weather, and got 6 laps in on each day. Had a lot of track closure time, due to a few breakdowns and some pushing a little too hard.

Both cars performed amazingly... we were hitting about 9:30 a lap, including Yellow Flags, and Traffic, its amazing how some people just won't get out the way.

Lots of dry track time, followed by good Beers and Steaks (For the Meat Eaters!) = a great time!

Good to report everyone, and both cars came back in one piece.

Sumil and Afy's cars are REALLY looking nice. Current best modded E60 and E92 on the forum (I aim to change the latter if I can ) IMHO!

Amer's new individual E46 M3 SMG is beautiful as well!


And I even have quite a soft spot for Dan's little Mx5 :D Its soo cute!


So here are some pics of the cars on the day. You could argue against originality in the location but it was such a nice day, the idea was to get as much of the lovely blue sky in shot as possible.. As it might be months before we see it again!
