Ok guys. I have been playing with the idea about a wide body for some time now and needed advice. After seeing a recent wide body it has put me at full speed to get it going before the new season begins for all the car shows.

I was thinking of only widening the rear with some custom made arches and leaving the front alone. What do you think?

Also I have 10"x19" on the back of the car at present. Would I still be able to use these wheels and add a set of spacers to bring them out a touch. Would that look ok?

I have also been thinking about changing the color, so opinions please. And lastly a retrimmed interior so I need ideas of what to do there!

I need someone to recommend me a good bodyshop who can carry out the work properly and professionally.

So lets see if I can get this done before the new year! :D

fas posted about this in a thread the oher day, he'd looked at it himself and the only people he could find good enough who were happy to do it were carisma. Dont get me wrong, looooooads of bodyshops will do it but using fiberglass and filler which you really dont want, you want the arches made from metal. I think fas said they quoted about £8k so it isnt cheap

Interior retrim is the easy part. It's the widebody that will make or break. Your idea of just doing the back is a good one, that's the path I intend to take one day. Spacing out the wheels will be fine, though you may want to consider changing the rears in the future to take advantage of the widebody and go DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP dish :)

Who to go for workmanship, that's the million dollar question. I mentioned Carisma, but they'll take major money from you. PM mattj, he knows of a place in Bedfordshire that customises cars, they may be able to help you. Not sure if you remember, they did an Astra Coupe widebody with 20's, got cover of Max Power and looked good. But I know they used fibreglass primarily :(

one thing I may suggest is it may be worthwhile not going to a car specialist place to get the work done. Check out some metalworkers. To them, metal is metal, so tell them what you want done, they MAY be able to help. Once the shaping is done, you can take it to a decent sprayer and get it all coloured.

I have a bodyshop hookup, they'll do an engine out respray for around £4k. Add another £1k if you go House of Kolor as their Kandy range is a nightmare to work with

The other option you can look into a rear wide body conversion is adapting M3 rear wings and rear bumper to suit your car. They can be bought for little money from breakers; however, you may not get the really aggressive rear arch flare, but still, with a stock front, it can look very unique. May be cheaper than going down a custom design. There is another member on here who is doing a widebody conversion to his E36, he might be able to hook you up with some contacts.

Respraying is a big job. What about vinyl wrapping? They do various metallic effect vinyl sheets now. You can get the whole car done for £1800, and it's totally reversible too.

Imo if your going widebody you may aswell go the hole way if budget is not a problem then make it look something like the car in the pics as you car stil would be unique!!

As for the paint i would go with nicks idea of vinyl rap as this can make your car very individual and is reversible, also can you not use m3 arches as a base than flare them even more?

On the interior front im sure with help of the sponsors of this site you can come up with a very individual interior!!

Fas, do you think your body shop can carry out the arch modifications?

Nick, I want to make custom arches with a twist! Also thanks about the advice re: vinyl wrapping.

I'm sure he'll answer it , but Fas mentioned that he only found one place in another thread and it was carisma (Pimp my ride UK guys) , so I'm sure the first place he checked would be his bodyshop, I might be wrong though

Adood's right. My bodyshop doesn't have the time to do custom work. They are an insurance approved place, so basically they replace old panels for new with a quick turnaround. They did say they would get people to do it, but it would be spare time and at their discretion, and they were up front with me, they said it could take 2 weeks to 6 months

Cheers bro. Going to contact a few metal places today and get the ball rolling. :)
