I've got aftermarket HID low beam installed and when I pull back the high beam lever when the engine is turned off, the high beam flashes momentarily (as expected), but the HID low beam also comes on and stays on. As soon as this happens I turn on/off the LCM switch and turn everything off, and I haven't waited till the HID low beam to turn itself off after x min (if it does)... Is this some BMW safety feature that turns the low beam ON when you pull the lever, and turns itself off after x min? What you guys think? [hmm
confused by reading that but fas showed my what he calls 'follow me down' lights. You flash your headlights when cars off and they stay on for 30 seconds. Its for the people with dark driveways so they can see where their going.

It's normal. It's called follow-me-home function. As Afif says, it's used by people with dark driveways, or for safety, lights stay on for about 30 seconds or so, or a few minutes, depends on how the car has been coded, and they turn off after the pre-set time.

Just out of interest, I assume that the 30sec counter can't be changed DIY, but only at the dealer right? In any case thanks for the quick response [bow
FYI, for my wife's Mini, when you turn off the engine with the low beam on (then you turn the LCM switch off), the low beam stays on for 1min. I'd like this same feature :)

All programmable by the dealer. You may have to pay for the privelage though, about 30 mins work
What they do is hook up their computers to your car and give you a download of what's configurable. you then select what you want or don't want and configure time delays for various functions etc, then they'll program your car
