You’ll have to excuse my enthusiasm, I’m still on a massive high and what a day! :D
Snowing this morning, I thought about not picking it up but then it cleared and the rains came. Good, clear away all the salt and grit I thought.
Picked it up about 1.30pm from Sytner and spent an hour there, going through the controls etc. BMW are just quality, aren’t they? Spent a while getting the wheel and seat positioned and now it’s spot on. Shame about the offset clutch, I keep catching the footrest.
We drove from Stratford to a leather retrimmer in Dagenham and then to Cooks Ferry. Picked up some ACS pedals and had a chat. Then back home and via some B-roads. Some people say the sport suspension is too hard, nah, it’s fine, I think the ride is superb. You can hear tyre noise at motorway speeds on poorly surfaced roads but I’ll gladly put up with that.
Took it up to 4500rpm a few times and I love the growl it makes when you give it some throttle yet quiet when just cruising. Throttle response could be sharper imo and a remap should fix it if it doesn’t improve when run in.
Gearbox is fine, obviously quite stiff and should loosen up with miles. I haven’t yet got used to reverse being on the left and having to push really hard to get it in.
Brakes seem OK, didn’t really test them as they need to bed in.
Steering, easy at low speeds but weights up nicely, though I would prefer a bit more feel and weight.
Clutch is not too heavy but nice and progressive.
When we got home the car was filthy and I spent 1hr 30mins in the dark cleaning it. Don’t want the salt to eat it ;) . It’s now all dry and in it’s carpeted garage.
I’m not sure if I’ll get the light yellow nappa after all. The alcantara / cloth is gorgeous and very grippy. It looks so cool, I’ve never seen the standard sport trim before and was very pleasantly surprised.
Oh dear, the sound system. It’s crap isn’t it  . The louder it gets, the worse it sounds. There is no clarity, depth or detail, just tinny noise. Thankfully Andy P is coming on Sunday to sort it out.
I like the way the water drops into the plastic tubs in the boot when it’s opened. ;)
I could go on but you guys already know how good they are……….Did I mention the damping on the centre console? :D
I haven’t stayed in on a Friday night for a long time but tonight I’m unashamedly going to read the manual.
And yes, I'll be posting pics as soon as I stop driving it :D
Cheers
