Great day out guys. If only the weather can get chillier and Digs could get more than one run........
Started out for some of us from Dig's abode.....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod001.jpg
A little convot break on the A509 (cannot believe that we have at least 5 on-board navigation systems and we still couldn't find the Pod with ease :o )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod003.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod004.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod002.jpg
We finally touched down...(filthy, filthy cars  , after our little gumball on the M1 :D )

Some familiar cars in flesh :)
Matt's Pheonix beauty and those I-Forgeds.. ;)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod008.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod009.jpg
Tin's beast (a bit too fiery today on the damp track, he might want to consider a torque converter as his next mod :D )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod010.jpg
Mit's ;) (Our first run was classic bro, 2 M3s red-lining in 1st and both cars still stationary :o )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod014.jpg
Teddy's (Damn, with that rear wing and front spoiler, all that drag and he still beat me  )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod015.jpg
Harsha and Roma (Roma actually beat me in a 330 vert!! :o )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod026.jpg
Diggy clunk-clunk Digs....(well what can I say other than....IT'S TIME TO SCRAP HER IN FOR A CSL!!!! :D )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod027.jpg
Fas our man...(his subwoofers scared the shit out of even the most hardcore drag racers :D )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod017.jpg
Whizzkid's (there are exhausts and they are other exhausts, but THAT one on his M5    )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod032.jpg
Digs and co also brought along some MEAN machines [cool
The 12sec limo
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod025.jpg
Did you say FQ-400???
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/0de1160c.jpg
The coolest Hartge MCS (Arianne still caned it with her box stock MCS ;) )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod020.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v392/peppernick/SantaPod021.jpg
For me, the M3 was too much to handle :o :o , I should have registered to drift instead of drag. Damn! on 3 occasions the rear end of my M3 sent me straight to the men's after the run for pants changing :o
We should most definitely do it again in summer when it's dry and traction is better. But it was a great meet nevertherless [ok
Hi Nick,
Nice pics! yep way too slippery to get traction man, just not on, definately going to look into getting that sorted... rear diff, wider wheels..better cold rubber, anything I get to help my poor driving  [hmm
Was a great meet, loadsa fun, but way too cold!!! some lovely machinery today!
Cheers

Looks like you had a great time, would loved to have been there. :(
After seeing the "convoy break" pics I think its uncontestable to say that EvoTechnik is here - and here to stay. :D
Nick, do they have a track-side toilet for your needs or did you have to open up your own? lol..
Some beautiful machines there though, very nice..
Shuriken.
lol yea theres a toliet stop on the way back to the que after your race [crackmeup.
Also for the record i wasnt having none of it [jam. I fondly remember a point when i left everyone on the M1 :p. Almost beat Fas and that was my second run :D. He taught me how to burnout and wheelspin . Not that it needed much effort in those conditions!.
I had to leave early tho. Who won the E55 v E55?
Also get the video clips up!!!!! Thats what its all about :D. Ive got lotsa webspace (2 gigsish) and 60 gigs of bandwidth if anyone needs me to host :)
Other than the fact it was REALLY col and it didnt start till 11:45 and i had ot leave at 1:30 it still rocked!!!!!!!! Great jokes we had [cool . Also YES durgeshs girlfriend drives better than him [crackmeup.

It's a whole day affair for £15. Pretty good value but the drag strip was really damp and slippery. Summer is going to be awesome. You can run as many times as you wished, some from the group managed more than 10 runs.
slippery is an understatement. Grip was like luck. If you get it youll win :D.

great pic's i have some that il post up later
great meeting everybody and putting faces to names etc
doubt theres much rubber left on my rims after doing 18 runs lol resulting in a 14.093@104.27 mph.
had some good runs with teddy but traction(or lack of) was a major problem as was the dsc cutting in(and im never using launch control again!)
dont think my bro will get over losing to the stock mcs !!

Ots and I here,
Just got Back, car is outside my house, going to dealer in the morning.
Putting aside the difference of 60+ Bhp, It was a Girl !!!!!
Go Ari. [jam I am sure she will be back from more in the summer, so the Mini guys better get practising.
Well had one Run, against Teddy, and Won that..... I tihnk it took him 21sec, however that just killed my car, BMW Tech, said the Diff is gone, the GearBox is gone and probably the drive shaft. [bang As he so eloquently put it to me, "It's F!*K'd".
Pictures up soon, and video up some time this week, once we edit, and put all the best bits together.
Next one in the summer, and I will be there doing more than one run, and maybe in a different car.

like a certain person said today... 330's just cant handle superchargers. Either that or superchagers cant handle the cold :p.
Excellent day out :)
Thanks to Digs and anyone else who actually made it happen [bow
Another day arranged for the summer would be great, maybe Nick will have actually learnt to drive his car by then :D ;)
Nick a novice in his new car and me a novice on the strip (no not that type of strip!)
Thanks bro for taking it easy, next time we'll be a lot faster [cool
Maybe next time we can have M3 Cab vs SMG vs Manual vs CSL [cool
....and Chelsea won the Carling Cup..what a great day all round. :)

Due to time, I had to compile in lo-res. Hi-Res version is 48Meg and is compiling as we speak. Will put that up in due course :D
BTW, the last 40 seconds are NOT WORK SAFE! You'll see why
Awesome day guys...
ari really is a speed demon, think she had more runs than any of the guys!!
I'm still basking in the glory of leading an M5 in my mini!! (ok it may have been only for a few seconds but WOW what a great few seconds!)
Def need to go back in the summer when maybe i'll have something a little bit quicker ;)
ps
Fas- got a quality pic of u in the mini, u fit it so well!!!
few seconds? i could have sworn you practically beat him [crackmeup.
Guys,
Just got home... What a great day! I'm about to retire to my bed as I think that I'm suffering from major sleep deprivation!
That E55 is a seriously awesome car... especially considering that it was VERY VERY slippery out there today... I can't imagine the embarassement it can cause in the dry!
Having thought twice about taking my 318i Valvetronic out, I was so happy... After my first attempt at a run against Fas where I just ended up wheelspinning at the line for 2 secs, runs consistently started falling in the 16.2-16.4 second range @ 85-87mph...
Very chuffed as you can imagine! And head on head with the 330CiC... (+/-0.1sec)!
Overall a great day... Durgs, hope your car returns home soon!
Ali

Hey Guys,
It was Great to finally meet up with you guys...unfortunately other commitments and probs with the car meant that I couldn't hang around too long or go racing - but will definitely be getting it fixed for the next meet!!
It was nice to see all the mean machinery in action while I was around, but the freezing temp meant I wasn't able to socialise with everyone!!
Anyways the pics I took are HERE (http://195.172.152.75/santapod/)
Nice VID Fas - lets have Hi-Res one please....
Afif, apologies but I forgot to give you the trim I have for your beast - its in the back on my car....

Cheers for the tools Afif [ok
LOL @ I did catch up and overtake the mini around 100mph.. :p but fair play to pete..just goes to show, bigass low profile 19's ain't good at all for this..
front wheel drive and all wheel drive ruled the day imho, the mercs were good, their traction control was incredible.. ;) Audi V8 was a killer man..
combo's i tried which all failed.. were 2nd gear start, traction on/1st gear traction on/switching off in 2nd. 1st run in before lunch, was traction all off, and it was all over the place... it was also my first time at such an event, think i definately need more practise.. [read
lol.. just goes to show all that power, and just can't use it :( bring on the summer time runs... [ok

Great day, even if it was absolutely freezing.
Sorry I had to cut and run but I was already late by the time I left.
Hats off to the awesome E55 Merc. Seriously quick car with very impressive launches off the line. It's just a shame that I didn't make more of a fight of it with my worst launch of the day. My decision to short-shift into second clearly did not pay off. [bang
See you on the twisties at some point!

quickest time I got was 14.9 against teddy, need to work on my reaction times too :( in my bro's audi s3, I got 14.7 on the first run, practise definately makes perfect... [hmm enjoyed it though, will be back next time in better weather to do [fight

Yes, I think many of us were losing a good two seconds off the line due to the very poor conditions. You can have 600 bhp but if you don't get it down it becomes irrelevant off the line.
Obviously, to hone a decent launch, particularly in those conditions, you would need to slip the clutch a great deal to prevent wheel spin. Not an attractive proposition.

Tin,
Too much power through the rear wheels mate. Your result in the S3 confirms that!
To have found a good (leaving perfect aside) launch on that track would have required substantial slipping of the clutch. Not so much of an issue for you with that big, meaty UUC kit but with my puny standard clutch it would have been mechanical suicide.
Cheers,

guys it was a great day despite that fact that it was cold and slippery on the track. Great matches with few of you guys also, the next time I go I'll be there with a 11 seocnds M3 ;) lol
Can't blame the weather entiely, after all the practices we had at Trax (Nick knows what I am talking about lol) we should have done better but I think Nick was just looking after his baby with new tyres n' all haha
The first run I had with digs scared the shxt out of me, 1st gear no move, second gear car rattled so badly finally got off the line but it was too late, took me 22 second or so to reach lol My best time was 14.32 at 103mph, SMG M3s got a perfect launch everytime [bang I managed to do 8 runs in total, I think my new rear tyres are foked now :(

I had to leave early (pick missus up from work) and because they were late in drying the strip i wasnt going to pay £15 for 1 run. Plus the car is in the dealers tonight for a couple of days. They reckon the head needs to come off  Sticking valve :(

yep, I went up against him too, he had dis-abled all of the nitrous, but was still running around 600, he said he normally got mid 11's on a good "dry" day.
So whats this damn racing mod [hmm ......... :)
Ok Guys,
Here was my secret.. but to be honest it didn't work out for me yesterday... I thought that the weather was going to be dry so I thought that i'd lighten the car up a little..
But it all kind of backfired on me since the extra weight over the rear axel would have aided my traction in those ridiculously slippery conditions...

good idea but lucky you never had a puncture on your way home:)
After hearing about some casualties, I'm getting paranoid simply because I just can't afford to repair anything :( BTW, when your car breaks down whilst racing in Santa Pod and then u tow it to a dealer (assuming he doesn't know that it was raced), is he going to check the data in the ecu to determine whether you 'abused' it, hence not covering on warranty? Can the dealer refuse warranty because you 'over-rev'd it a lot'? Insead of Santa Pod, you can be a bit generous with your right foot in normal roads as well so I'm just curious

My friend has a 11 sec E46 M3 in Taiwan but I am not going to go into details here lol. If money is a bit tight then basically by changing stock items to the followings you should get the M3 to do a good 12.8-13sec
AC 3.91 and Evosport 4.1 rear diff
ALMS Rear Diff Cooling Kit
Revosport Oil Cooler
TMS Adjustable Lower Arm
TMS Light Flywheel
Remapped/Delimited ECU
Evosport pulley
Is high power ignition leads
Schrich 272/280 cam

Thats what the rev-limiter is there for. The only way you are going to do serious damage is to miss a gear ie, 3rd gear redline - into 2nd = bang. But you could easily do that on the road too.
Dont know if the dealer can detect what the car car has been driven like by reading the ECU. Only the obvious signs of valves and piston clashing if the car has been seriously over-revved.
yea but the idea is one of us tows you to a petrol station and you say you broke down ;).

it just didn't make any sense because I am sure it's not the first time Digs drove the car like this lol [bang
but quoting from da man himself:
1. Car is making some very funny Vibration sounds at Mid RPM.. a little worried about that. Not to mention it does not go into gear for 15mins in the morning. have to rev while clutch is done to select a gear.
lol
Hey Teddy whats up with your first run....overdo it with the load pedal :D
Shame about Digs car, but we wont be saying that when he beats us with his csl.
Guys, my 318 wasn't that far off the pace of your m3's @ 16.2 sec...!
We should go again one day, when its slightly more wet, no? :D

Noble hmmmm this is just me and a little off topic.
If i had an every day drive and i loved track work then i would get the Noble for the weekend red green light brigade and the mighty hot laps around the track.
If i didnt have an every day drive i wouldnt touch it.... Not saying that a CSL is an everyday drive cos i really dont no, but i have the feeling thats not the Nobles domain.
Best of luck with the repairs D..... hope its not as painful as it sounds.

well while i was there i didnt see no E36's at all [hmm.
at the end, around 4pm there was a estoril blue e36, which was fishtailing in and out around some barrels where everyone was parked  think he may have been alittle [bang or high on something other than octane
Think he may have had a race against a black 330ci (digs' friend i think). [hmm
He raced a guy called Kunnal in an e46 m3 convertible smg....
Kunnal beat him first time round then bet the guy again second time... and got absolutely caned...
That guy was such a hustler...
my best in the e55 was 13.053 ....... couldnt get into the 12's due to lack of traction! im quite curious what the x5 would do in the wet next to the other cars....

What ever happen's car is getting repaired to full status, everything is going to go on it. IE new Clutch System, New Suspension, and the New Rims, New Bushes, and New Mounts. Give it a good clean, go to HIN!
Then I will decide what I am finally doing with it.
I will try and sell car as a whole, if that does not work out, it will be parted off. EvoTechnik Crew, have rights to parts first, then will go to you guys, and if anything left to the outside world.
Lee, If she does get parted out, I am sure the Rims will be the 1st thing to be grabbed up. Consdiering they are only made to order.

Vish, what was your terminal speed for 13.053? the audi against me, got 12.515 with a speed of 116.04! that was quick!
lee330sport
02-03-2005, 08:44 AM
I think i saw Vish get a terminal of 120mph, not sure. But i would say it would cross the line faster than the audi. 4wd cars tend to get better starts but are slowed down from the extra weight of 4wd. I dont think i saw 1 subaru get over a 100mph terminal.
Durgesh
02-03-2005, 10:19 AM
a 4wrd car with 500bhp is going to be slower than a rwd car with 500bhp, simpily because the loss through the drivetrain is so much more.

Guys, this is a stupid conversation.
Weight, gearing, wheel size, displacment etc etc will all have massive impacts on terminal speeds.
My sccoby used to kick ass over an M3 up to about 100mph, but then the M3 would catch up, that was all down to the gearing, as they are designed to be quick 0-60

Be nice to see em on a 2mile strip to see if the E55/M5 could catch an RS6 after one of those ballistic starts.
terminal speed was 114.7.... i reckon i could easily have caught the rs6 as by the end i was gaining on him...... that is until he uses all his nitrous!!!!
and the estoril e36 did beat the e46 m3 smg... his friend was going around saying my friend has an old m3 and he wants to race u for all the money in your pocket.... so kunal raced him without betting and won, then challenged him to a rematch for £20... needless to say he got whupped and had to pay up!! i wouldnt say no to that big group of scary looking mother f'ers!!!
