Surprise surprise, the Japanese have found a new craze. Last year, it was the earthing system using items like 'Hot Inazuma' but this time around they're having a fuel efficieny frenzy with the use of magnetic 'eggs'.
Basically, u put these small eggs (big enough not to clog your filter etc.) in the petrol tank and when it makes contact with petrol, it 'creates masses of negative ions' which allows some kind of chemical 'rearrangement' that preps the petrol in a way that it allows it to be burned more efficiently, hence increase in mpg/responsiveness (breaks down bigger atoms into many smaller ones apparently etc...).
I have read hundreds of articles/feedback on these products and all claim to have achieved 2-9% improvement. If u don't fancy sticking something in your tank, there are other alternatives such as 'Magtune'. It (some magnetic device) basically wraps around your fuel line and it 'preps' the petrol as it enters the engine. It's maintenance free so u just leave it on and take it away when u sell the car. There are so many people in Japan using this and although I was very sceptic about this before, i've started to think that there is something in it...FYI, they are about 5-20 squid so with the amount of petrol we use, maybe we get our money back after a few months? I will probably get the magtune one and try it out. Fad or not?
