View Full Version : Standard shocks
Hi all,
This is my first post onto the forum, though i must admit i have been using the search feature on this forum for ages, seems to answer most q's EXCEPT this one: - 8-)
I own a 2001 318i se, saloon.
I am running standard shocks and want to lower my car.
i have read everywhere that eibach pro will allow me to achieve this with out any rubbing problems or compramise in ride quality.
I was thinking about the Boge springs which drop the car by 40/40, i would prefer this drop, what will these be like on standard suspension?
I have 18 inch mv's on my car and 225/40/18 rubber all round.
The car is used to having 4 adults in it so will i have to roll the arches to prevent rubbing?
If there is a very high chance of rubbing i will probably stick with the eibachs, over to you guys.
Thanks in advance

Boge springs are very comparable to the Eibach's, they're both progressively wound and should give near identical characteristics. With 225 tyres all around, the Boge's will give you the drop you require and no rubbing. The tyres are skinny enough to still provide plenty of clearance under the arches.
thanks for the quick reply.
will the stance be flat(like that of an m3) or back higher than front?
i know its a 40/40 drop but the standard springs appear to make the front lower than the back.
PS. BIG FAS Your car was parked up at a relatives house and looked awesome, but due to the nature of your visit i was unable to ask you about it.

I think the Boge's will give you the same stance as the normal car. Eibach's will flatten out the stance as the rear drop is a touch more agressive. Which one do you prefer? Me personally, I love the nose down look.
Where was I parked up!?!
nose down is good for me as long as the back is not too high.
But the eibachs claim 20mm at the back whereas the boges claim 40. how comes the eibach will flatten it more??
You were parked up on oatlands drive. the car was not particularly clean but it still stood out. this was about 3-4 months ago.
I saw the evo technik sign and then checked out the car.
You were not parked to far from my brothers black clk amg

I like the look of that car.
what shocks are you running?
Can anyone confirm if the 323i shocks are different from the 318ci shocks?
i was under the impression that they were shorter and stiffer.

I've still got OEM SE shocks. the part numbers are different from 4 and 6 cylinder cars but I doubt the ride height is different as AFAIK only MTEC, ACS and M3 ones are shorter/stiffer.

Hi Yavz - On my Coupe I am running Boge Springs with Sports Shocks, on 19's. I am pretty happy with the result, car sits quite nice and the ride quality isn't that harsh in my opinion.

Thanks Yavz, I am pretty happy with the drop, also the Boges are a bit cheaper than most others! Good luck with whatever option you go with, and post up some pics ASAP!
Antsmith82 and stock323isaloon, what is the ride like with that drop on standards shocks?
is it bouncy?

The ride on my drop is fine for normal cruising. Gets a bit bouncy when you start going over speed humps etc. I'm going to uprate the shocks eventually, but for the moment its easy to put up with.

The ride actually hasn't changed as much as I expected. only about 10% stiffer than stock so not very noticeable (still very comfortable). Eibachs highly recommended. Teddy or Roy should be able to get these for you quickly
