Hi, take a look at the pic below :

Does anyone know what the exhaust flap on the right tail pipe is for ...

and which models it is installed on?

Cheers.

i think it opens at higher revs.

Yep,
It stays closed on starting the car to quieten the exhaust note and opens up as the car heats up :D

A lot of people on the e46fanatics disconnect the tube.

Cheers

Do all models have these flaps?

Or is it limitied to Manual or Auto's only?

Actually it's mainly to provide the required back-pressure at lower revs. It opens up at around 3k revs, give-or-take, and closes again as you slow back down, the exception being a full throttle at which point it opens up to allow the extra load on the engine plenty of room to escape ;). A lot of people fiddle with it so it stays open, but these are often the people who post a few days later about how lumpy their tickover is. :D

AFAIK it has nothing to do with whether the car is a manual or auto, and I'm not 100% sure about it but I think every twin-pipe model runs one (although I don't seem to remember it on mine but then I never looked that hard :p).
