View Full Version : Water Leak
Ok guys ive had a water leak for a few days now [hmm. Having to put in a water everytime i drive it. Its on the passenger side of the engine bay because i can see water at the bottom. Ive tried feeling around for it but really have no idea what im doing. Any ideas? Waiting for Kav to get back to me otherwise local garage it is.

have u checked:
- rad cap
- bleeder screw next to rad cap
- thermostat seals
- waterpump seals
- radiator hoses (both inlets/outlets)
- 2 radiator bleed screws (bottom of radiator, in line with the rad cap : blue and white screws)
- block drain screw under the engine
- radiator surface (common to puncture a small hole if you hit it something)
can't think of anywhere else but never let the engine heat up or your gaskjet will blow:) when coolant dries up, it forms white crystals so u may see a trail somewhere...

if you have to fill water every day then the leak must be pretty obvious [hmm have u tried to take the undercover off and have a peak under the car whilst the engine is turned on and hand brake on? remember that coolant in your face is not a good idea so wear some safety goggles just like when u were in chemistry class :D my suspicion is rad hose or the radiator itself
umm sometime water wont come out unless the car is running as its a presure thing...

I'd avoid getting under the bonnet while driving... [bang
Check any hoses in the general area, inc pipes and fittings...
Additionally, do these engines have "core plugs" in their cooling systems?
Generically speaking, following the recent temperature drop, and possible lack of enough anti-freeze, the core plugs tend to pop out when the water freezes - thus saves the engine block from cracking or causing further damage. I don't know if thisis the case with the BMW engines - but certainly has been with the older GM cars... now thats digging into history - I suffered from that when I was a teenager with my first car...
something to do with radiator expansion tank [hmm. Will be in the garage tomorrow.... £200 *sigh* [bang.

hmmm wierd i get a water sometimes aswell but its from my AC when ive stoped after been driving for a while water runs out but then it stops and u dont see anything for about months, i used 2 have a C 320 that did the same thing and when i took it in 2 merc they just told me it was AC and like i said my bimmer does the same... was it bmw that told u it needed the work done?
na private garage. Know the guys very well. Problems sorted and they did me an awesome price :) £170 including an oil and filter change :D. There original quote was errored since bmw gave them wrong price for the part when they inquired [hmm.
I always keep AC on [hmm. Never had a problem with it till this problem happened.
