Guys,

I have just returned from a trip initially to go out and check the size of a new Nissan Micra - to replace the older 1999 model.

Anyways - saw one, liked the size, fits all requirements - all set, we now know what we want.... off we go looking for the "right one"!

Until we get to the BMW section - and there we found a few 3-Series saloons - no with a natural bias towards the BMWs - I tried persuading the rest - not that they really needed any as I was choosing (and PAYING!!)

To cut a long story short.. we saw some 318i and 316i both with 1.9 engines - so I get asked "You're the BMW expert - whats the difference?! "

[hmm

"Dunno" was the reply.... Can anybody tell me what the difference between a 1.9 318iSE and a 1.9 316iSE is - (apart from the 2 - cleva-clogs :-p ) ??

Without knowing the specific difference - I still ended up putting down a deposit [bang on a:

Dec 2001 (51- plate) 316i SE Manual, 4-Door Saloon, which happens to the facelift model, with the small round foglights and curved indicators. Its pretty basic, just has air cond, electrics, no s/roof - has Parking sensors etc.

I would like to change black plastic trim for either wood or brushed aluminium - so all advise appreciated.... Anything else I should check for when collecting?

Please advise...

I got the pre facelift 316 1.9 SE. Dont have a clue what the difference is :D Love it when i meet 1.9 318 SE owners tho :D. They always feel gutted [crackmeup.

Thank god you didnt get the micra. I have a personal hatred against micras which is spreading to most people around me [jam.

Probably a minority but I quite liked the new Micra for few reasons:

- speedo design
- smart key gadget
- gutsy engine (for a 1.2 or something)
- fantastic mpg...

anyway, I am contemplating buying a super-economical second car as I've now been told that our office is being relocated to Guildford later this year...

Whizkid, Jamie posted a 'what to look out for' thread this week so that'll be a good start for your enquiry. New car...lucky you!

the freebies ones are double tips (part number 18 10 7 500 194 ) so your 319 may only have 1, not sure tho. Afif tried for his but it was the wrong one:) in any case, just say u've got a 330ci or something!

Thanks guys - picked it up this afternoon - it looks okay... had the basic black rubbery trim inside so on friday went bidding on eBay for the some metallic grey trim - which I picked up on the way to picking the car up.

And in true BMW fanatic style, the trim was swapped as soon as the car got home - looks pretty cool - will get some pics up over the next few days!

Still don't know the official difference between the 316i and 318i.
