hello mate,

whaqt you need to do is take the glove box out and that will give you the access you need to feed the cables and get the unit in. as for the amp wire. which wire is it? a remote cable?? do you have an aftermarket amp in your car?
do you have a pic of this cable?

The amp wire is a factory wire.
it was connected to the back of the business cd player.
it just a seperate cable and it says amp on the back of the connector

how do i take the glove box out?

could the amp wire be for the antenna?

ive never come across that before on any of the bmws ive worked on. you will just have to test it with a meter.

could the amp wire be for the antenna?

I noticed this wire as well, when i had the whole lot out the other day, fitting a B2. Its got an unusual (nothing i've seen before) metal connector on the end, with 'amp' engraved onto it. The connector itself is about 5mm in diameter with a plastic insert. Mine was not connected, but i don't have the OEM set-up as previous owner went mad with Alpine stuff.

Strangely (and it may be a coincidence) i never get any readio reception. Even fitting an E39 antenna adaptor hasn't solved it, so i wonder if its something to do with this wire.

[Sorry to thread hi-jack :o ]

AMP is short for Amphenol - the make of the connector
