Right need suggestions this is really important, was driving home tonight, car was up to temp etc, gave it somee welly in second gear not just floored it but rolled onto boost, car did the normal, squat, boost, go, then spun the wheels up, hit the limiter and just died

I had to wait for the tow truck to come and get me at 1am... Now when I turn the key the car just turns over, catches then dies, anyone got any ideas, this is really important, Im really hoping I havnt blown the motor, instead just tripped something out, anything worth checking, Im dead stressed and cant think straight, so Im probably missing something obvious

Comments and suggestions really appreciated..

Cheers guys

May be a sensor? needs to be put on those diagnostic machine

But what ever happens mate, i wish u all the best and hopefully you get your motor back on the road as quickly, cheeply as possible!

Also check all your intake hoses - if there`s a big crack or disconnected hose, you can get the same symptoms

Cheers mate, will check the fuel pump today, I cant understand why that would pack up, but given the extra stress I place on it then Im not surprised, any easy way of checking it ?? ie would it show as a fault on diagnostics ?? the good thing is I checked it this morning....still wont start.......but it has no engine warning lights showing, thinking about it if Id blown the motor then I would not even be able to turn it over.. but it fires it just wont keep idling

I'll keep you posted. cheers guys

any other suggestions though are still welcomed, I dont wana rule anything out at this time

Bit of a long shot but maybe the crank position sensor gave out. Normally they give early symptoms such as cutting out etc before totally giving up but if the fuel pump theory doesn't yield any results it may be worth looking at - good luck. If a fuel pump, or fuel starvation occurs you would normally get a period of rough running for maybe a few seconds before it toally dies, that is what happened when it packed up on my previous 325.

In many ways I hope it is something that cause me to take out the motor, It'll give me an incentive to rebuild it bigger and better.

I spoke to my tech today (nice guy, phoned me on a sunday to check my car was all right cause his mate saw it on a tow truck) its gona go in tommorow so fingures crossed

Ill keep you updated

Coil Packs, or coils - does it fire on all cylinders or not ??

Could be fuel related, sounds electrical to me though. Any fluid leaks over night that you have noticed  [hmm

No update as yet, cars couldnt get into the workshop till tommorow so Ive been pacing aorund all week, also been checking everything 6 million times to make sure its nowt obvious.. will no tommorow I hope. It seems to be leaning towards coilpacks..

Just spoke to Active this afternoon and there is a possiblity that that EWS is out of sync but chances are slim, Im hoping that the rroot of all this evil is the MAF sensor to be honest and not coil packs. If thats the case my life is gona be a whole lot eaiser cause im ditching the MAF in a couple of days.

When you gona order the SII kit for yours dude..

And your always welcome to come out for a spin

I forgot about the MAF - it could be that, but from my understanding it would start but idle roughly.

Kit is afew months off really yet :( :(

True but you never know, I wasnt quite sure what Carl ment by the EWS being out of sync but I'll ask my tech tommorow..

Really want the car running, Ive been hacking round in the other halfs RX8, keep over taking things in 4th gear and then going  not enough Va Va Voom, its SO different to the M, (handles well though)

once you get blown you'll never look back :D :D ;)

Other side is once its running I can fit my new bits..

i thought maybe coil pack but since u have 6 of them, even if one dies, i thought it`ll struggle but still stay on so maybe not. i thought about cam shaft sensor or idle control valve...

LordNikon

Is it true coil on plug technology then ?? I thought it was 6 coils one on each plug, but an overall coil pack to control the lot ?? [hmm [hmm

Good Luck with whatever it turns out to be ! [hmm

And the correct answer was

the F'#cking MAF sensor....

Annoying thing is our local stealer who is USELESS and thats an understatement wont do VOR if the cars not in there workshop, Snows in Pourtsmouth who are the best people I have had to deal ever with can have one to me by Monday, and there in the UK.. go figure

Still got a dilema though, the new toys I am just waiting on, no longer needs the MAF sensor, so do I wait for 2 weeks without my baby, knowing that when its running again its gona be a rocketship, or do I spend £200 and order a new MAF [hmm

what do you reckon..

I just wana say thank you as well to everyone that gave me sugestions to resolve this issue, its great to know that you can post a problem and there are load of people who are there to help you out.. so thanks again

do u good 2 get about without a car lol be more fun when u get it running again :D

well done on guessin it was the maf sensor 2 start with dude

Before you part with £200 for a new MAF try a bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol 99% available from your local Maplin. It has a reputable following a very good contact cleaner for sensitive electronic parts mostly in copiers, printers etc.

I have a tuned 2003 1.8T GTI running up to 240bhp and after near 70,000 miles whenever I have any flat-spots or feel the car isn't running right. I do a quick diagnostic [Vag-Com] through the Air/Fuel/MAF reading. If I find it a little low. I take it out give it a clean with the Isopropyl Alcohol and hey presto: it's back to 4.5-5.1g/s and the car boosts so clean through the revs. Definitely give it a go!!
