Hi guys,

At the time of picking up the M3, my dealer offered me tyre insurance for 3 years for the price of £400. The insurance covers:

- punctured tyres;
- accidental or malicious damage;
- cost of replacement;
- replacement of all 5 (yes 5!) original tyres;
- allowance of £250 per tyre (£1250 in total)
- ability to register replaced tyres for an additional £4.50 each.

Now he said it is a no-quibble policy, meaning that if i bring the m3 in with a nail through the sidewall they wouldn't bother repairing it but just change the tyre. Of course, I said that if it was a rear that needed replacing i would want to change both at the same time, he said no probs just hammer a nail into the other one and we'll do both under the policy :eek:

As i plan to get through some tyres :D i asked if i could wear them right down and then stick a nail in 'em to claim a replacement, he said ok as long as they're still within the legal limit they would honour the claim :eek:

I have until 22 May to decide whether to take them up on the offer or not. What do you reckon, £400 for 3 years of tyre insurance? :)

WTH kind of dealer have you got !! thats sounds well suspect.

BMW are fussy barstards the best of times i can't see them giving away free tyres !!! but then you would have to keep the same rims.

The dealer is a mate as well, so he helps bend the rules where he can... and its not related to rims apparently. He took my 535 with non-E60 approved wheels without question ;) Also, the insurance is offered by the dealer (and not through BMW UK)...

I am almost convinced but i don't know if I will ever make a claim, in which case it will be £400 down the shitter :rolleyes:

just thought about this ? bet theres a maximum number of claims you can do in a year !!!

and you can't go to your dealer everytime saying theres a nail in the wheel.

If they really are giving away free tyres i'll be pissed !

i think the £1250 limit applies across the 3 year period - so 5 tyres in total (at 250 each)

will ask him again.

I mean that insurance policy from BMW GB, if your car is robbed or a write off , they will pay you what you payed for the car, it covers the car for 3 years i think. So in 3 years if your car is worth 10,000 , and it gets robbed you will get the price you paid for the car back !!

12.5% of the cars total cost if i remeber correctly, wtf is it called ?

I've got the insurance document from BMW somewhere.

Tarik what sort of milage you doing in the M3 a week ? ? and how do you drive, that is a very big factor on your tyre wear !

I kill rear tyres every 3 - 4 months and i dnt even go tracking !!! and i only change in sets.

That is "gap" or "return to invoice" insurance dude, and yes they have always offered it to me and i have always refused it - you can buy it much cheaper on the lloyd's re-insurance market than BMW's policy (which used to be underwritten by cornhill anyway) ;)

Mileage is not an issue with the M3 - as its used for pleasure only - its not a work car. But i am tempted as i know my mate will sort me out come claim time - and i think can I easily wear out two sets of rears in 3 years and thats more than £400 worth of rubber :cool:

Easily ! Tarik after that day at Brunty my rears were worn to wear bars and the front Inside edges of the tyres were CORDS !!! lucky i went to the dealership and they noticed it !!!!

I'm doing a U turn now Tariq, if you know you can get your moneys worth from the insurance policy , GO FOR IT !!!!!!

ummmmmm M3, Tariq SICK SICK !!!!! [ok

Tariq, I have gap insurance. Can't tell you how much i want a skip to crush the car. It has depreciated so badly that if it were squashed tomorrow I would get a nice fat cheque for £33500 and that would get a very nice M3.

BTW, always refused tyre insurance. Was also offered when I was in the process of buying that M3 last week, can't remember the price though.

I bought this with my car, and if the useless tosser at the dealership had phoned me back today I could have told you how well it worked. I'm claiming for both my fronts after the blow-out in Germany. If I get any joy out of them tomorrow I'll let you know.

i was offered it when i bought the 5 from BMW last year and turned it down.

we did a similar policy at the place i used to work at and there are limits for the number of claims per year, and they will only supply the same tyres that the car left the dealership with in case you decide to get different more expensive tyres on the car

personally, on an M car i would consider it, but not on aynthing else as the tyres last that little bit longer! hopefully...

Yeah I have been offered this too on my M3 and i'm unsure what to do.

Also you have to pay a £50 excess per tyre. Arrgghh

he didnt say anything about an excess :confused: and i'd be interested to see if chaos gets any joy from the replacements he bought in germany otherwise if you are stuck with only being able to go to the dealership for tyres then its sounds crap :(

9 phone calls and they still haven't phoned me back, although I've been mentally busy at work so not always had chance to chase. I'll try and speak to them later or tomorrow, but frankly if they're that efficient at using the phone then I don't hold out much hope for claiming on the insurance.

cheers chaos, I hope they do sort you out in the end despite the hassle :)

i got tyre insurance free with my car, as well as diamondbrite back in sept 2004
last year i hit a kerb and one of the back tyres had a small damage
still drivable.
i went to my local garage asked them to invoice me for two tyres separately.
one back tyre was more expensive :p and on its invoice had 'damaged sidewall' on it. the other was cheaper and i paid for it.
sent tyre insurnace company the invoice, and they promptly sent me a cheque, no questions asked

excess was only £25 which the took from the cheque they sent me.
