As you may already know, I am looking for a bit more performance from my E46 M3 without making too much noise. I have decided not to get a new back box.

I have however picked up a pair of 100 cell cats which are definitely going on, along with some Rogue underdrive pulleys. I have also picked up a Supersprint x-pipe.

So the question is, do I fit the x-pipe, or stick with the stock mid pipe. I really don't want any drone in the cabin, and I don't mind the rasp of the standard exhaust. I just want more poke!

These are being fitted in the morning, so I need to know if anyone has experience of just fitting the x-pipe on the stock rear box.

The X-pipe doesn't induce drone. It increases the rasp, significantly. I've heard an M3 with stock exhaust and the X-pipe, TBH it sounds like a bag of broken bearings. However, match the X-pipe with an aftermarket exhaust, you mixed the rasp with the boom, you get a nice wail.

The X-pipe also doesn't increase performance. But it's lighter.

So your advice Nick? Shall I just fit the cats and save the x-pipe for if I ever decide to go for an Eisenmann. (Quiet version) [hmm

Depending on how you would mind the acoustic change. I never liked the stock M3 noise so if I were you, I would just put the cats on.

Right. Cats it is then. I will hang onto the x-pipe until further notice, or until someone offers me a quiet version of an Eisenmann.

Just wear ear plugs ;) That exactly what Omar does in his Ferrari 355 with a straight through exhaust :D

U just reminded me again how awesome his car sounds, i remember hearing his car for the first time. It was when we were all leaving the car wash in Germany going towards MS Karting and he floored it. I've got that recorded on my camera, sounds sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet :)

I think Eisenmann must be your choice... But if I had an M3 I'll put a Gruppe M titanium exhaust! [cool [cool

I have now fitted the 100 cell cats. I haven't driven far yet, but there is no drone at all. The car sounds 'angrier' when you boot it, and it definitely feels quicker. So far, so good. [cool

I am taking it to the Pod tomorrow to give it a blast, so I will consider my options after the weekend.

The quiet Eisenmann sounds like a good option. Not sure what to do about the x-pipe though?? [hmm
