Full JL Audio system was hooked up today and in a word it looks CRUNK! It has turned out far far better than I initially thought it would and MAJOR Kudos to Andy P who spent the whole day setting everything up for me. Just a couple of VERY minor things to be sorted, namely amp remotes and a sub box connector block but apart from that it's 99.9999999% done
Some pics of the day
Started off with this heap of shite wiring that some local monkey did, long story, but he ended up with a smack in the teeth
http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/6651DSC00877_Small_.JPG
The mess was extended to the head unit
http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/6651DSC00879_Small_.JPG
Andy spent an hour just removing the crappy wiring and after having a laugh about how bad it was, we ended up with this
2 JL Audio 10w3D2's
2 JL Audio e1400 amps
Pheonix Gold Distribution Box
all kinds of wiring
http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/6651DSC00899_Small_-med.JPG
All nicely hidden away under the standard carpet with the JL Audio logo cut out and perspexed

With some trick lighting as a final touch ;)

The lights are actually LED's which flash in a "knight rider" effect, side to side

Let me take the opportunity to big-up Andy P for doing the install. A lot of you guys met him at the recent Brent Cross meet, he had an ICE'd out Smart Car.
Some pics of his install.

I'm sure he'll be along to explain what he's got in his install, but bottom line, he did this all himself.
We're working on getting his new company "ICE Cold" officially affiliated with EvoTechnik, but as one of the founding members, as an active member of this forum and as a customer of ICE Cold, I cannot recommend him enough

I will have to speak to Andy, thinking of adding an amplifier to my stock Hi-Fi whilst retaining the Basslink.

Hey mate that looks amazing, theres some seriously hefty cabling around that amp! :D
As for the previous wiring, now THAT is impressive - lol! I think we need a video of these knight rider lights :)
I love the lighting too, but how does it sound?! Or have I missed the point entirely lmao.. :p
Shuriken.
Looks very clean Fas congrats [ok

fas, that looks great-a really good use of the (lack of) space in a cab. bet it sounds great too. im probably going to do somthing similar to my m once i get round to it.
thought id show a pic of the install in my old cab( apologies for highjacking the thread)
2x15" kicker l7's
kicker 1200.1
kicker 600.4
kicker resolution comp's
etc
this is what you can fit in a cab if you dont need your boot lol.
i fiberglassed the spare wheel well out and used it as the box. this setup was way too loud for the car(one word-overkill!!) and theres no way its going in the m3(way too much weight!-and i really dont need that much bass lol)
never got round too finishing the install because i sold the car
LOL 2 15 inch subs?..... Thats the type of bass which hurts the chest :p. Looks meaaaaaaaaaan tho.

Thanks for the comments guys, The sound is just amazing! I'm not using a remote at the moment, so the bass is directly correlated to the volume I'm running the head unit at. However, when turned up, for the first time ever, you can feel it in your body, in fact, I was listening to it stuck in traffic on the North Circular and it actually made me feel queezy :D I love it!!!
I'm using the standard BMW head unit, I did think about changing to an aftermarket but I seriously don't like aftermarket head units in a BMW dash, it just doesn't look right and this way it's nice and stealth
Steve, drop Andy a line, I already told him you might call based on my experiences, see what he says.
And I still can't believe the setup I have and the amount of bootspace I still have. It's a much smaller footprint than even the Basslink, well happy.
I have a short video of the lights, I just need someone to host. It's only a meg
email it to me dude (afif@uksupercars.com) and ill put it up now [ok.
p.s. My regular front beemer speakers can shake me [hmm. Althought i got an aftermarket headunit which helps alot!

I saw and heard this today!
I have to say it sounds very good! And the input is coming from speaker outputs!
The bass is tight, and crisp, and the install is very very nice work indeed. If anyone needs any ICE done, I can recommend from what I saw today.
Congrats Fas, I know how long you have been wanting to do this for.

a template was made then drawn onto the carpet and then cut out using a jigsaw. it the design is simple, I'm sure he can do it, alternatively, what I'm sure would be easier is to have any logo printed onto some perspex, or using see-thru decals, and cut a window into the carpet and get it illuminated underneath

Right guys, this picture is bugging me:
http://photos.e46fanatics.com/data/500/6651DSC00910_Small_.JPG
All I'm seeing is an expanse of greyness. I've had a quick chat with Andy and we're going to look at accentuating the Windows with a frame covered in black alcantara, as well as some more lighting.
Over to you guys, give me some ideas! Primary objective, maintain the space, I'm not looking for more audio equipment, just something to tart the boot up a bit.
so the perspex is just a square sheet underneath the cut outs?
Durgesh
31-01-2005, 03:09 PM
Fas, tart up the JL signs like you said.
However above them, get EvoTechnik, in preplex, and light the Evo in blue, and Technik in white.
What do you think?

now THAT is a decent idea! Will float that with Andy when I see him this week!
Afif, yes, just some perspex hot glued to the underside of the tray

Haha, who gave you photoshop for christmas? :D
Some lighting from between the subs shining down onto the bottom would look good. Maybe project evotechnik onto the floor - but that might be a bit much lol.

On a more serious note a moment of inspiration has cuased this idea...
I dunno how far back the amps go so it would depend on that, but you could cut out rectangles starting at the top of the JL logos. So you have a little gap, then a bit going back into the boot, over the amps. If you lit that it would look quite cool :)
Shuriken.

All sorted actually.
Getting the EvoTechnik laser etched into some perspex then getting it mounted above the JL windows and accented with LED's.
