Boot opening tempremental today

Been shopping today and went to open boot and it dint open first time thought nothing of it, but when i got home and wanted to take my shopping in it would not open, only way i could get it open was by key!

Is this a solanoid problem? but surely if it was it wunt work with key either? anyone got any ideas?

This isnt going to help but i remember this happened to me months ago. Only happened like twice in that day and it never did it again [hmm.

Does the coupe have the same sort of tube / gromit for the entry of the wires to the bootlid as the cab? If so one of the wires may have perforated and split which is exactly what happened to me with my old e46 vert. I sorted it here:

The missing picture links show the split worn wires. This is a relatively common fault according to one of the mechanics at my local stealer...

Same thing happened to mine, the wires inside had worn, just had to be reconnected then it worked fine
