I ordered a car part from america.

The company that sold it to me quoted a Delivery price of X amounts. I agreed.

UPS called today saying there are £120 of charges to be paid    . Of which only 40 is customs.

All sorts like delivery from airport of the part to my house. Fuel surcharge and so on.

I told them i understand i only had the TAx to pay and the rest was to be paid at the dispatch end.

Any body else had this experince

Sold far told em to get back i touch with the sender and ask them to pay the charges less taxed..

Have to admit Andy, I have not come across this. Normally the only charges that I have had to pay has been duty/taxes, etc.

I would get in touch with the company and ask why you are having to cover these extra charges.

Good luck with it.

Sounds like you are being taken for a ride there mate.
If it is a reputable place you have ordered from they should be willing to cover the costs as originally agreed.

Good Luck

You would have to look at their T & C's they operate under, it sounds that they have given you a "landed" price rather than a "door to door" price. Are you not able to collect it yourself from the airport?

What is the part and how big is it?

I gave them my address and all the contact details. It was confirmed by them that this is the price delivered.

He never mentioned this is the landed price not door to door price as he probably assumed that i would pay up when the goods turn up and UPS demand payment.

It is a Hamman splitter. I think it might be a good idea to say to him that what he is basically doing is fraud and refuse to take delivery of item if he doesnt pay the cost.

Also contact my credit card company and inform them that a fradulent sale has taken place. Which is the case as far as i am concerned. That should put them right i reckon.? [hmm [hmm [hmm

Yea the best way to slove these kinda things is to always talk to the seller, hopefully in the interest of good customer relations he'll sort it all out for you, I personally wouldn't storm in saying fraud fraud fraud, give him the chance to put it right, if he flat refuses tell him what he would of forced you into doing.

...from the kerb into my gallery - a distance of 12 feet

This is after the sender had paid $400 to ship it from North Carolina

Their excuse was it would need a tail lift truck - I refused to pay it.

Turned up the next day anyway, on a tail lift truck

At least I beat the thieving swines!

It wouldn't be fraud that you contact you're card company about....

Speak to the seller first, then if they don't budge, fax a compy of the receipt to your card company and explain that you are not prepared to pay the extra expense and want them to deal with the seller on you're behalf... Primarily to get it delivered, and if not then refunded.

hi

unfortinately any courier , not just UPS , will charge "admin " or "clearance " fees on an import , annoying but standard stuff . However £80 cant be right .....dont forget you get charged customs duties ( approx 5% of consignment value ) AS WELL as import VAT ( 17.5 % ) on the total order value INCLUDING shipping charges ....could this be where the extra money is going ? if so then I am afraid again this is perfectly normal and is not the sellers fault , annoying as it is .

Forgive me for asking , but why would you buy a German made part from the USA in the first place ? This will always work out more expensive ( unless it was a second hand part or similar at such a very good cost it would offset duties , shipping and import tax from USA , which seems unlikely )

hope this helps in some way

This the breakdown

Vat = 40.21
Custom brokerage = 55
Delivery = 25
Airline Handling = 32.50
Fuel surcharge = 1.15

Total £153

My invoice from the supplier states delivery now he claims that he meant port to port delivery not home although it does say so on the invoice [fight [fight [fight

I guess if they dont agree to pay chrages less VAT then my only option is to contact my credit card company.

According to UPS it should have never been sent as Air frieght but rather as a parcel. :( :(

It is a replica part hence i ordered from America dude. Begining to regret it if it doesnt get sorted [hmm [hmm

From my experiences this is more of a UPS thing!

There are some admin/handling charges - which is normal but the additional ones here are UPS.

I have used Fedex, UPS and USPS - USPS comes through Royal Mail, and they have an admin charge if it is a taxable item - Parcel force will write to you advising you of the charge before they deliver it as per normal. Once you pay they deliver to your door. The charge is normally the customs charge and the customs handling/clearnace admin fee - thats it!

Fedex charges are less than UPS.

-------------------------------------------

A word of advise - when buying good from US, it "can be commonly found" that the sender can declare value and mark the goods as "warranty replacement" - if they are replacemnt parts... ;)

If you are dealing with normal new parts from a vendor then US laws are very stringent and the vendor has to declare the full value of the goods he is sending.

It depends where you buy from and "who" ships the goods over.
