OK, I've got Harmon Krapdon which is disappointing. I haven't got much of a budget, but I'd like to improve the quality of sound. Quantity is not my aim, just like to impress a lady or two (lol) and get rid of all the hissing and crackling. In addition I want to add a DVD player to the OEM prof nav 16:9 (with in motion). Also, want to add a handsfree kit (for Nokia 6230i) that operates in a similar fashion to the OEM bluetooth so that nos are displayed on the on board monitor and dial through steering wheel.
Kit which I think may be suitable:
Infinity Basslink T
Amp- Alpine MRV F450
DVD player- Kenwood KDV S220 P
Bluetooth Handsfree- Parrot CK3000 with all the connects2 stuff (incl. TV in motion)
Any advice/comments much appreciated :)

hey dude,
if you are on a budget i would agree with the basslink, its a quick and easy solution to the lack of low end response from the hk setup.
i would not put the alpine amp in there though as you would have to change the speakers aswell. you cannot run the hk speakers off an aftermarket amp.
as for the dvd player, the kenwood is good but there is better out there, for example, the directed video player is a great deal smaller and also plays multi region discs aswell as mp3 discs unlike the kenwood which is region coded.
the car handsfree kit is a good choice although if it were me i would upgrade to the ck3100 just so i would have caller id and direct dial ablilty through the kit itself, therefore being able to just leave my phone in my pocket or briefcase and use the kit independantly.
hope this helps

many thanks for taking the time to respond mate :)
I think I'll go Basslink + Parrot 3500 (or similar). I'll leave amp + speakers. What DVD player do you recommend mate?
Do you do any work up North (or know anyone reliable up here -Yorks.)?
Cheers

hey mate,
i would recommend the directed video dv2602, it is very good for the money.
i'm afraid i dont know of any installers in york. i am based in north/west london.
i can undertake the installation but the vehicle would have to be brought to my workshop.
cheers

Ive got the basslink in my coupe and its really good - definitly notice a huge improvement - and i went from a non-hk setup!!
Be careful when you mount it tho. Some folks have managed to mount it in the gap above the battery - i didnt manage to work that out. I think there are some quick release kits on ebay u can use..
I mounted mine on the back on one of the fold down seats. All well and good - but i went to put the seat up and it doesnt close fully - DOOOH. Need to sort that out in the summer...
Other have screwed it to the floor of the boot - i just wanted to keep as much space as possible!!
Good luck

Do you have any pics of the Basslink fitted to your rear seats? So how have some people managed to mount it in the battery space? I thought that it definitely didnt fit.

how much improvement is a basslink when just linked with standard speakers? might be tempted in the summer.

MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT. Mine is just spliced into the rear speakers (as its meant to be) and all running from the standard BMW Business headunit
Seriously - best bang for buck IMHO

Hi Baz - for reference I had a similar base system as you - 16:9 Professional sat nav with TV and Harmon Kardon.
I've completed several of the upgrades you're thinking of.
First of all - disconnected the HK subwoofer, and installed 2 10" DLS free air subwoofers driven by a DLS A3 amp - this system kicks hard, especially with the ski hatch open :) :

At the same time, I had a CKO DVD player and PS2 installed in the boot:

Also fitted TV in motion module.
More recently, had the Parrot Bluetooth LS3200 with voice recognition installed - excellent piece of kit - works faultlessly:
