View Full Version : Help - How do you remove seats?
Hi,
I am purchasing some sports seats and would like to know how to remove electric seats.
I think this is how you do it but would like to confirm.
1. If seats are electric you cannot disconect battery until you move seat forward to remove bolts at rear of seat and then back again to remove front bolts - then disconnect battery and then remove electical connection.
Is this correct? Any other tipe would be appreciated
Thanks for your help

yep, pretty much spot on. PLEASE remember though, once the seat is unplugged, do not for whatever reason switch your ignition on, it'll screw up your airbag sensors and you'll need it reset.
I'll be doing this mod pretty soon myself :)
Hiya Raul. Fas just beat me too it. Spot on though and as Fas has said do not switch the ignition on after the seats are out.

from e46 fans:
May be slighty different depending on year. The bottom portion of the seat has two pop-its in the front- one on each side. Pull up firmly on front bottom edge and out. Seat should slide out of holders under top portion of seat. Top portion of seat back has two pop-its just like bottom, but up toward middle of back portion of seat. Remove center head rest, if you have one. Pull firmly on top portion of seat to unseat. On the bottom of the back portion of seat at extreme edges are two U-shaped tines that slide into slots. Pull seat up and out. To remove the tray you have to remove the two interior moldings with rear lights. Remove lights with a flat head-carefully!. Disconnect. The moldings have two pop-its and two flanged guides. Pull on forward edge of molding to pop out. The bottom portion of molding is what keeps tray in place. Remove moldings. Remove speaker screens by pulling up back side (near rear window)of covers . Remove screws (3) from speakers. Disconnect. Remove any harness point bolts on tray. On the forward edge of rear tray there should be four plastic rivets. You can push out the centers to remove the rivets, but be prepared to lose them unless you take precautions from inside the trunk. Once they fall out they are hard to get. Stick sticky tape directly below them to keep from losing them. Once you remove the rivets, lift up slighty on the forward edge of shelf to expose the horse shoe clips on the headrests under the tray (x4), remove clips and remove headrests. Tray will slide right out. If you lose the little rivet centers, be prepared to hear them bounce around when you listen to music. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure that list of instructions refers to the rear seats....
