Just got back from my bodyshop who installed my brakes after I toasted my original ones.

Went for a full 330 front brake setup which was generously sold to me by Raj328.

Kit consisted of:

330 Calipers and carriers - painted black
Black Diamond Cross Drilled Discs
Pagid Fast Road pads
Stoptech Stainless Steel brake lines.

Before:

Disc Comparison
http://www.lmc-uk.com/uploads/disc comparison.JPG You can see how much bigger visually these are from the standard 318 brakes

Caliper Comparison

Like the discs, the calipers from a 330 are also a lot bigger and meatier

My old pad

No meat. Metal on metal. It's how EvoTechnik do things!

SS Hoses

Done

Brake fluid was drained and refilled using Porsche Dot 4 brake fluid.

Any difference? at the moment it's placebo effect, i think there's a huge difference. Will take it out for a proper run this week and do some 60-0 stops as I did some stopping distances check last night and my old setup sucked because everything was so worn. Pedal bite has definitely improved and the look so much nicer behind the rim.

Will wash the car at some point and take pics. Car is filthy, there's heavy construction on my estate which is making washing the car a waste of time!

Spare wheels anyone?
http://www.lmc-uk.com/uploads/Spare wheels.JPG

These wheels are taken off and stored and "might" be for sale. Porsche, BMW, Audi and Maserati rims with tyres all available :)

This USED to be a 330 coupe. 2005 November registered. Owner had his house broken into and the car was stolen. Theives torched it :(

Another gem I didn't get to photograph was an e39 530d. Apparently a Scottish student was given this car by his father to use whilst at Uni. e39 530d sport, full leather, navi etc. The kid CLAIMS to have been driving at 35mph and he went into the back of a parked Vauxhall frontera. COMPLETE front end collapse. Disintegrated the engine mounts, engine block now sits 4 inches to the left of where it should be, suspension in half, etc. Kid is being prosecuted for wreckless driving.

oh, and the best bit today was that my bodyshop donated a little something something to my mod list. Not going to say anything right now, but it's going to be 100% unique and the only one in the world :D (for now!)

Wicked bro. Glad to see 'em finally fitted.

They do look really good behind the rims. They will deffo be a lot better at stopping even if your old ones weren't toast.

how you getting on with this set up fas? differences?

BigFas
25-01-2006, 10:51 PM
one of the biggest differences I've found is that the pagid pads need some heat in them before biting effectively. This is new to me as in my previous cars I've only ever used standard discs and pads and they've been effective from cold. I've had a couple of hairy moments where I've dabbed at the pedal, expecting to stop only to be carrying on and having to stand on the pedal. However, once operating temp has been reached, you can really tell you've got proper stoppers.

Another big difference is pedal travel. The pedal goes down a lot further than it used to. I thought it was a problem, but I've done some research and apparently the 330 setup means a noticeable increase in travel. I'm yet to find out the reason why.

I can't tell if the braided hoses have made any difference, i'm not sure what to look out for if I'm honest.

What you might find is that because you have changed all the fluid etc and they have been sitting around for a while is that they just need to bed in a touch. Pretty sure that when I first had them fitted they were the same and then after about a week or so they then started to bite a lot better.

I also found that the further pedal travel also reduces a tad after a week or so as well. One of the reasons for the further pedal travel is that the caliper piston is bigger where as your master cylinder is still the same so you tend to have to press the pedal further to get the same effect.

Give it a tad bit longer and then see how they feel. I am sure they will get better.

Bro, they'll feel spongy for a bit until they build up a surface on the face of the pad, don't fret too much as the feel should get much better after a few miles. And steel hoses generally improve bite under heavy stopping aswell as the fluid reducing pedal fade, so you probably won't notice those until you give it a proper caning. ;)

How easy would it be to put a 330 set up onto a 325? as easy as it was for Fas onto his 318?

Cheers :)

yes. The fronts just need you to have all the required 330 bits. eg Calipers, Carriers, Discs.
