Hi there everyone,
come to use my car today and it's a non starter (flat battery) , no problem i thought, take out battery put on charge and away we go.
The only problem i have now is when the battery is charged how f**k do i get it back in? although the car is open the boot remains locked   .
I have tried all 3 keys in the boot lock but they will not turn, the only thing i can think of is to connect the battery to jump start terminals under bonnet but not to sure.
any help will be greatly appreciated

Key should work in the boot itself so thats very strange... cant figure that out! someone with a better technical knowledge will be along in a min to sort you out mate.

Feel for you, i have had similar problems. I have an on-off switch on my -ve cable which i turned off to do some work but closed the boot. Couldn't open the boot, luckily have through-load seats so climbed through. Doesn't help you though.
My first thought was the jumper terminals in the engine bay. I'd be a bit concerned that:
A/ this might damage something electrical as there would be no battery attatched.
B/ The jumper posts just lead straight to the battery and don't actually cut into the main system. [hmm
If you as flexible as a russian gymnast and have thru-load, there is supposed to be an emergency release handle in the boot. Sure i read it somewhere in the manual. Might be worth ringing the dealer in the morning, unless anyone knows. [situp

Thanks guys,
i have managed to gain access to the boot from inside the car via a rather unconventional way.
In the end i removed a speaker and the inner protective case then somehow managed to find the seat back release, after eventually pulling it open i then got my arm well and truly stuck   .
on the up side i am now thinking of going into part time gynaecology :D :D
cheers

On the E46 coupe if you get into the boot (From the inside obviously in this scenario!) And take the trim off the inside of the boot door itself. You will see the back of the lock with like a plastic cable attached to a lever on the back of the lock. Give this a gentle tug (Towards the battery side of the car and not even an inch) and it should open the boot.
Hope this helps at all!
Sam.

This happened to me once on my E36 M3.
Why the boot didn't open is because you linked your central locking to lock the fuel cap and the boot. It was also in my instance armed with the alarm.
The battery then went flat with the alarm on thus the boot stayed locked.
It was a bitch as the central locking didn't work so my doors opened but the boot stayed locked, lucky the previous owner had the throughfold seats ticked on the option list and after some snake like belly dancing i got the charger into the boot and started charging the battery.
stupid design , but i'm sure they rectified this flaw on the E46 and above ?

Thanks Raj, i couldn't understand why when the doors were open the boot remained locked.Looks like they never did rectify this as mine is a 2000-e46.
I have also noticed that now the battery is up and running the boot lock still doesn't turn with the key  maybe the lock has seized due to lack of use??
thanks guys
kev [ok
yea summins up because i can open/lock my boot with they key. It sets off the alarm but it still does it.

Maybe a healthy dose of WD40 will help? Just a thought... [hmm
Sam.
You should always be able to unlock the boot with the key. I had the misfortune on my last Golf that I had de-locked (except the boot luckily). The battery went flat and I couldn't open the doors. The only way in is through the boot. At first I thought the lock didn't work but it seems that it was just seized due to lack of use. After that I decided to check the lock once a fortnight at least with the key just to keep it operational.
WD40 will do the trick.
