Just got back from holiday in America and went down to my local dealers to look at possibly extending the warranty.

The salesman tells me it has just gone up today because of the new Financial Services Authority (FSA) regulations. I asked him how much it is now, so he checks for me and comes back with a figure of £720!!!! [bang Up from £510 previously!!!!

Tell me the world has gone mad??!

Yep thats true, but you could have renewed up to three months before your present warranty expired.

Mine does'nt expire until the end of April, so I have to pay the higher price anyway. :(

that really sucks...still have a year and a half to go on mine...but that is still annoying

might start looking at the prices of e90..and get budget standard 330 or 335 or whatever they make and slowly mod it once the coupe comes out..

The warranty on my 330 runs out in May this year, so I renewed it with an M :D :D :D

I'll remember this if I ever get a car with a warranty of any kind lol.

Why have they gone up, 'cos the FSA felt like it?

Shuriken.

I like the way pepper thinks!!!

Just upgrade when the waranty is running out!!!

Now just need to rob a bank to cover the cost of my upgrade and mods!!

Because brother dearest the FSA are the new overbearing nanny board (taking over from GISC) which dictate what insurance companies (like the one i work for) can and can't do.

Since all warrantees are basically insurance policies they are effected. The new rules mean that 4 pages of crap has to be included in every policy schedule and everytime you ring for a quote the poor salesperson on the end of the phone has to read out a 6 page statement before you can even say anything.

All of this extra stuff plus some changes in the way that Ins companies now have to work has put the cost of policies up.

However, these changes shouldn't make THAT much of an increase in premium and to put the 7 series warrentee up by 100% is clearly just BMW taking the piss. Having said that the 7 is an eledctronic disaster area for BMW so i can sort of understand it.

It does cover pretty much everything - even the battery! And you get breakdown cover and MOT insurance.

Mine runs out in April, but was luck enought to have my dealer give me a ring earlier in the week to offer me the chance to renew in advance at the old rate - was £620ish instead of £900ish on my E39. As my car will be 5 years old and has done 86k I suspect there may be reason to claim in the next 15 months.

There are plenty of non-BMW warranty providers who cover most cars a lot cheaper. May not cover 100% of what BMW covers, but covers most components. Worth checking me thinks.
