This ones not just for me but everyone thats going to the ring, for those of you that have been on the track/ring before, maybe you could help those of us who haven't prepare, what mods would be best to have done before the ring and maybe what we should have to take with us like spare tyres etc...

Im hoping to lower my car preferably with coil overs if i have the money but probably just springs, and front strut brace they are the two many things i want i have done for the trip, any other suggestions

The most important mod is brakes. Make sure you've got plenty of pad/disc left. Upgrade to DOT 5.1 fluid and stainless hoses are recommended. Or StopTech Stage 2 and you're sorted.

Bring along a bottle of engine oil and brake fluid too. You may need to top up.

I wouldn't worry too much about other mods unless you want to upgrade them. Just make sure the car is in tip top condition (don;t forget you need to drive home too). The most valuable commodities on the Ring especially when you'll a Ring virgin is defence and common sense.

I rang BMW today to get a price for a set of new front disks and pads fitted, they want circa £300  . Have started to feed this into conversations with my wife every so often to subliminarily coax her into thing the stoptech stage 2 setup is a bargain - lets see next year. At the least I will be running upgraded front disks and pads (I know Roy, i know  ) and 5.1 fluid.

How much is a stoptech stage 2 setup then?

Around the £500 mark for front and rear disks, pads, 5.1 fluid and braided hoses.

Might I suggest summat. For those of you Ring virgins, modding the car beforehand to improve handling/speed is all very well and I'm sure that your intentions mean well (male testos....). But if your sensible about it, might I suggest that you take your cars as they are. Reason being, one can be all gung ho after modding the whip when at the Ring, but she (the ring) will catch you out, esp. your a ring virgin....she is very unforgiving. Go to the ring in stock, see how you get on, then mod the issues out in prep for the next Evotechnik Ring Extravaganza.

Roy, Ted.....might I suggest that you guys bring an artic to the Ring inorder that these mod hungry virgins can buy your wares on the track, kinda mod and go. If not, I got some space in my car. lol.

There's my shilling worth. No insults intended, but having been there a few times before, still wanna go back for more.

I understand exactly what you mean M.O, but I got brake fade just at brunters so am concerned that the extra distance and the increased braking per lap will take their toll. Admitedly I wouldn't imagine that I will be getting the same kind of speeds that I got at brunters and that is to say that on each lap there were big braking moments from 140mph plus and I guess the brakes don't tend to recover from this for a while. I have been told that it is highly unlikely that I will exceed 110mph on the ring so maybe the brakes will have a bit more life. I know my pads will need sorting so may just change those to something a bit better and change the brake fluid to 5.1 and see how we get on.

Modding the stoppers is a good idea. You should max the car on the start finish straight and get to about 130 on the back straight in your beast. I maxed out in the old P1 at 162 (GPS reading) and the speedo was reading 180!!!!! I found that using the gears to slo down (once you get accustom to the track) and a little light braking goes a long way in that one doesn't have to worry about brake dust. Eh DocMatt???? lol. But seriously, virgins beware, when she snaps, your rectum is gonna ossilate (can't spell) so badly you will be nicknamed Lord o the Rings

The main staright is never in full use. I'll be surprise you don't have to slow down immediately after getting on the main staright after the last corner on the weekend we will be there. The queue back to the parking lot is going to be horrendous!

You will be using your brakes a fair bit at the Ring, even if you don't get up to immense speeds; so make sure they are in tip top condition.
