Mate, the pioneer is THE one to go for - it is an all in one unit, inc NAV and DVD player - with a motorised touch screen.

These things cost £1499 new ... and that one from SPAIN - stay totally clear - its a scam.... there have been fair few of them around.

Best advise - is find a reseller in UK and pay a bit extra... at least you have the reassurance of a valid warranty and a chance of getting the thing!!!

best of luck!

Totally agree, the Pioneer is the one to go for, check out Halfords and they are over £2000, but you can get them for as low as £1350 in this country.

Whizzkid is totally right there are a ot of scams on ebay connected with car stereos, go to ebay and put this item number into the search for more info, the number is 5739610370 . I almost bought one of these myself from Italy, emailed the guy several times, they are very convincing but something just wasn't right. If they are pushing to use Western Union, even sending the payment to a name that you have not given them steer well clear! Having said that the listing that you how does accept Paypal so I would be less wary of that as it does offer some protection. I've been looking on ebay for a while for a screen and I've decided I won't buy from anyone who says they are in the UK but states in the advert or when you email them that you cannot collect it or pay cash on delivery, why wouldn't they do it?

steer clear, this is a scam

THere is a guy on e36coupe.com who has just had his business account closed by one of these guys. He bid for £1200 for an engine from Spain, zero feedback etc. but because the listing said it accepted paypal, he bid for it. Once he won the auction, they demanded payment via Western Union. When he refused, they complained and are now demanding €1000 to drop the case.

If a deal is too good to be true. It is

how can the guy demand payment via western union only when there is a option of payments available, if that's the case i can say i accepts paypal first then demands COD at the end and if they don't agree i'll complain and demand £500 to drop the case, this is stupid.

Westside told me about www.caraudiosecurity.com a few days ago (thanks!). They seem pretty good, they've got that AVIC X1 unit for £1350. I know thats over your limit but it seems reasonable compared to other prices people have mentioned, might be worth having a browse through their site mate.

Well, you've been warned it's a scam. If you want to continue to go for it and if you think you can handle these guys, you're on your own

I would much rather pay that bit extra and get it from a reputable place. You are saving money using eBay and the like, but when you're talking about this large an amount of money, I don't think its worth the risk. The thing with eBay is the higher the price, the higher the risk (normally). Scammers aren't going to both scamming you out of a pencil sharpener, but they might try and scam you out of a top of the range In-car dvd/satnav unit. Just my personal thoughts :)

Hi guys, i love the Pioneer range, but as of 3 months ago the one to go for is the new Kenwood, it has won about every award under the sun for 2005. (It is very expensive though)

thanks for the warning!!!
it looks too good to be true, he actually emailed me saying £500 to my door step.
for this amount of discount, it's hard to trust, especially with 0 feedback and post from spain.

Definately, if it looks too good to be true then it probably is. If you take a look through the ICE section, especially the av section with searches like Pioneer or Alpine it's amazing the number of people living abroad with zero ratings selling headunits and only accepting western union.

Here's the official warning from ebay:
"Question a seller who will only accept money orders or instant money transfers such as Western Union, as these are harder to trace or be reimbursed should anything go wrong. Bidders and buyers should be especially cautious if one or both of these are the only payment methods accepted by the seller. Exercise caution if the payment address differs from the item location. eBay does not recommend using instant money transfer services."

Oh and a couple of warnings from Western Union themselves:

"As a Western Union Money TransferSM user, we value your business and take pride in delivering your funds to the intended recipient in a fast, convenient and reliable manner. However, there are individuals throughout the world who will attempt to use any system to receive payments in connection with fraudulent sales or solicitations."

"Make sure you know to whom you are sending money. If you are purchasing goods or services and paying through the Western Union network, it is your responsibility to verify the reputation and legitimacy of the seller. Western Union is not responsible for the non-receipt or quality of any goods or services."

And to echo what people on here have already said they state:
"Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is."

I'm thinking they've probably already had a few complaints from ebay users!

Have just re-read Rossi's post above and it's uncanny but I had an almost identical email from someone in Italy. When I replied saying it didn't quite sound right they suggested that I send the money but in a different name and when I receive the goods I change the name to theirs. Another user suggested I keep back the transaction number, these are both cons so don't accept. From Western Union website (http://www.westernunion.co.uk/info/faqSecurity.asp?country=GB):

"Beware of sellers requesting money sent through Western Union using a fictitious name or a relative's name in which you are to change upon receipt of goods. Western Union does not permit money to be sent using fictitious names or to change the receiver's name after the transaction has been sent. Western Union is not affiliated with any Internet merchants."

"Beware of sellers who advise you to send money through Western Union but advise you to withhold the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) from the seller until you receive the goods. Western Union representatives typically pay out when a receiver presents a form of identification bearing the name of the intended receiver and do not require the MTCN for payout."

is this true that import systems like U.S models, their RDS radio does not work in the UK, that's what i've heard.
does anyone know?

BigFas

If you import a US system, you will need an FM expander as their FM range is different to ours.

If you get a DVD system, you will also only be able to play US or copied DVD's as at the moment, no-one can chip an in car unit

my mate bought one from HK, but he told me it was a pain in the ass for the install becos the specs are different in HK,he nearly gave up installing the unit.
and he didn't install himself he actually took it to a professional installer to get it done and they told him it was a pain for the install.

And if you bought the unit from them, the install will be straight forward?......My sis' ex bought a Pioneer unit from HK and he did it himself, plug and play ;)
