Can anyone help out. I've just got Teddys M3 mirrors and am going to get them painted next week so want to take the glass out. Haven't done this on them or standard e46 mirrors before so just wondering if some could tell me how to take the glass out (carefully).
Also anyone who's had them painted, are they painted as one piece or seperated into the mirror unit and base plate?

If you look just under the edge of the mirror glass you'll see a tiny slot in the back baseplate. Just put a small screwdriver down the side of the glass (carefully) and turn the baseplate using the slot to unlock the motor unit and drop the whole thing out. I think. Roughly. ;) Was a year ago when I last did it, but that's not far off. :)
I didn't see mine actually being painted, but having looked at the end product I'd say mine were done in 2 pieces.

Cheers for the info, as they are not plugged in I can't move the glass, where is the slot, top, bottom or sides?
Do you know how they come apart, is it just 2 screws on the baseplate?

Think the baseplate just has screws on the bottom, aye. The slot should be visible even on the car. I think it was on the bottom of the assembly as you look at the glass, maybe 1cm below the edge of the glass. Should be able to see the black plastic behind the edge of the glass and find the slot.. Ted and I disassembled one using trial-and-error tactics in about 15 mins in his car park one day, so it's not hard to figure out once the glass is out of the way. :)

Had a look behind the glass as best I could. Could see the motor and then the cylindrical attachment which goes onto the mirror.
What exactly do you remove, is it just the glass or is there a back, and where does it seperate, is it quite close to the glass or is it closer to the motor?

My head is hurting now, my memory was never the best... Basically, as I remember it, as you look at the bottom edge of the glass about 1cm behind the edge you should see a circular piece of black plastic with a groove/slot cut into it. It's fairly small and there's only just enough room to carefully slide a screwdriver down between the glass and housing and into the groove, then you just give it a bit of sideways pressure and the plate should turn and unlock, whereupon the whole interior unit will come out.
I'm not sure, but I would think you may be able to 'pop' the glass out aswell, I never tried this, but I'm not sure I'd want to try without knowing if you can pop it back in lol..
If you're in any doubt, give Ted a call. I'll help where I can but at the end of the day he knows better than I do and he may even have a piccy to hand that may show you better than I can describe. If you're still wondering by the time I get off work, I'll have a peek at the oem mirrors on mine and see if they're the same and if I can get some pics for you.

Cheers for the info, rang Teddy and that's exactly what you do. Glass is out now and disassembling them ready for the painters. Easy when you know how, thanks for your help.
