Hi all and Jason

I have recently bought a BMW E90 330i M sport without Xenon, however I have managed to source a set of second hand original BMW xenon headlights with ballasts and bulbs.

I was wondering if it is easy remove the bumper at home and simply plug and play these headlights to replace my halogen ones. Also would it be better for me to replace the AE bulbs for something whiter before install (any recommendations on bulbs would be appreciated).

Jason, you were recommended by Ted at SSDD-Motorsport who says this would be a doddle of a job for you plus you live pretty close to me and could help out.

Cheers

MK

I would recommend some bulbs from Teddy he sells super bright LED ring markers which will whiten up the angels.

The wiring for ballasts is simple enough but they need coding. As you said Jason can help you with that.

Do you have the washers too? You will need to install headlight washers or the car might fail MOT under new rules for this year.

The lights also need to self level so you need the levelling motors.

IF you don't fit those things you need friendly MOT man as new 2012 legislation means they have to fail if the car is missing these components with xenons..

Further to your questions above, I called two independent MOT garages around me and confirmed with them that the HID Xenon can be installed (without washer) as long as the bulbs are of a low correct temperature and properly aligned bulbs/beams. They said HID fitted to reflector headlights may fail because they do not focus the light beam on the road.

Update:
I spoke to Jason this afternoon who said this job would require a lot more re-wiring and coding, however he did say he hasnt done a conversation in a while so will need to refresh his mind.

With above comments in mind I have decided to purchase a coding cable and try the coding myself (helpfully cheaper and get to learn about the car for future).
