Cant wait for this to be released -- the ability to hook your ipod to your BMW and see the song / artist info no the SatNav display. I built one of these for my car about a year back using the an open source MP3 player called PJRC and then by building an IBus connector with details from the HackTheIBUS group on Yahoo Groups. But this should be a lot more polished:
Dension ICELink Plus (http://www.dension.com/main.php?pageid=50&topid=42)
We have a planned firmware update that will be released shortly thereafter for the ID3v2 Text support on the BMW and Mini displays, this will support both the Multi-Functional Displays and Navigation units.

Can someone simplify this for me? I can't be bothered (if truth be told) to read through pages of info :)
I have the business single CD head unit with a 6 disc changer. I want to hardwire my ipod, ideally, with text. I know the Cd changer has to go. What cables do I need to get this to work? A direct link to the exact component I need to buy would be sweet.

Fas,
There are 3 solutions at the moment:
Monster Icruze (dont know about this one)
Official BMW iPod adapter
Dension IceLink Plus
The last of these is a replacement for the previous Dension IceLink which has been around for a while and works really well apparently. But it doesnt offer any text on the Business or Navigation display.
The new IceLink Plus has just been released this week, and can be bought at:
http://www.ihavetohave.it/product.php/2088/1//24036772993a1a050764424b0ecd9f57
It currently doesn't support the ID3 tag info, but the guys from Dension are saying that updated firmware is being tested at the moment, and will be available end of December. This can be flashed onto the IceLink Plus and will give you text on the navigation / MID display.
I'm gonna wait till I actually see this in action before ordering -- but hopefully that shouldn't be long...
Btw - so what car are you going for next ???

Nice one dude, I'll wait until the new flash update before spending the ££.
As for new car. Announcement in Feb / March. That's all I'm saying ;)
