Damn, that's not good at all. Wasn't travelling to fast when it happened was he? otherwise it could have been very serious indeed.

Looks like it could be delamination/break down of the inside of the tyre which then caused the wall to weaken and then blow out.

I had something similar where when they found an egg in my tyre, I replaced and when taken off the inner wall of the tyre had disintegrated completely, garage said possible cause was previous owner not being careful with kerbs/potholes.

Bollox!, that looks like vandalism!, sliced with a stanley knife so to the naked eye can't really see the cuts, start driving along and the tyres warm up and POP!...seen this shit before.. , to coincidental for it to happen to 2 tyres at the same time

..or could be something else .. :o

I agree, looks like a deliberate slash with a blade. No tyres fit to pass manufacturing standards and be sold to a paying customer would blow out like that :(

yeah i think it could be vandakls aswell but tyres after about 2/3 years deteriorate form the inside because of heat, cold, moisture, kerbing, pot holes etc

ask him how long he's had his tyres for?

well in that case i go with nick and paul on this 1 no way a tyre only a year old even in the hottest or coldest conditions would just rip 2 shread like that at low speeds and with plenty of tread.

bang out of order!

I am not dismissing that vandalism was a cause but it does not matter how old the tyre was from when you bought it as they could have been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for a long time before being sold ;) .

I have seen a few tyres go this way even when only 4-6 months old from the retailer  with no vandalism and you do not even have any comeback due to possible wall damage when parking/potholes etc.

Trying to slow the car down would have caused extra damage to the tyre wall aswell.

It looks to me like he has possibly had 2 punctures at the same time, be it an unfortunate case or vandalism. But the point is, they do not look like they have gone bang, but more likely gone down slowly and been driven on for some distance.

As for how i come to this conclusion, i managed a tyre shop for 8 years.... Have seen most things that can happen to tyres...
