Can never work. Ironically if you go to Halfords and check out the side of a jerry can one of the warnings says that if you store petrol in the can then it is larger than the maximum amount you are allowed to store:



The Petroleum Spirit (Motor Vehicles etc.) Regulations 1929 specify conditions where petrol can be kept without a licence. These include allowing the storage of up to two 10 litre metal petrol containers in a garage or other structure which is separated from living accommodation by a fire-resisting barrier, e.g. a garage or party wall.
