Guys, puttin' a Pro-Kit on the car in the next couple of weeks.

I know I have to get the wheels re-aligned after I've had this done but given that it will take a few weeks for the springs to fully settle, do I get the alignment done when the springs are fitted or when they've settled?

Cheers

when they're settled! And you only need a week for them to settle

I have a local tyre fitter who has just had a brand new Hunter alignment machine. Im thinking of taking mine there cos it could do with a tracking, but i have heard/read to much (but not enough) about the car needing to be laden/weighted down.

Does the car really need to be laden or not??

Cheers

Ideally yes. The place I've taken mine to, Feltham Tyre Centre (Slough branch) will use sandbags to simulate a full load, they put them in the passenger seat, drivers seat and the boot.

Thanks Fas ;)

I will ask them if they do weigh BMW's down.

Mind you for £38 i doubt they will

Had mine done on a Hunter after suspension change. They didn't bloody weigh it down though, and it cost £150!

Then my bloody trailing arm bushes self destruct so BMW had to do KDS when they fitted new ones anyway! :(

Its worth it though, car feels so much better after being full re-aligned.

In fairness i think i got shafted. The did adjust toe, camber and caster on rears though. Still think it was pricy (and a waste as it turned out! :( )

The 'proper' KDS alignment with adjustments only came to £72 at the dealer. But i was having work done at the same time so i dont know if that made it any cheaper.

£38 does sound a bit cheap to be honest. Sure thats not just to check with adjustments extra?

That's very good dealer price. The last time I asked they wanted £280 for my car. Plus I understand BMW KDS are all set for various stock suspension set-ups. Readings vary with aftermarket suspensions.

Yeah i thought it was pretty good for pukka KDS.

Even more interestingly, the service guy said they had adjusted my settings to take into account my aftermarket suspension. I think he said they increased toe in to max to compensate.

The dealership actually sub'd out the actual changing of the bushes to a garage round the corner owned by an ex BMW tech. The service guy said "it felt much better after the adjustments on the way back".

I was chuffed and concerned all at once! ;)
