I have the HK system and just upgrading to this head unit has made a big difference, i'm not even going to bother changing the components, i'm just going to add some tweeters to the little triangular shaped cover just behind the wing mirror, just as I did in my E36.
Next will be my Directed 600d amp that i've had for a couple of years now, it's just so loud and clear, and the build in eq is awesome.
I also have my trusty Poweracoustik Fubr 12" sub which packed a punch in my last car but won't know if it has what it takes to rock a bimma

Hey, I was going to get this but have decided I'm going to go for the CDA-9853R I think it is, the next one up. What's the sound quality and general usability of this like, as I imagine it will be very similar to my one. Any opinions, thoughts etc would be sehr gut! :)
Nice to hear the ICE is on the way too, hope it sounds good for you. [ok

The sound quality is very good and the head unit is very easy to use. The 9853R is the one up with glide control, dot matrix display ..etc but sound quality is the same.
I'm going to disconnect my HK subs when I fit my amp+sub next week too ..now then time to burn some new tunes.. [cool

Steve, there's an additional module you can buy for between £50 and £75 that will allow full steering wheel control. I have this and works perfectly

i think i might be lookin at this module soon if i can find a nice lookin head unit to complement the inside of the car the cd changer jumps now over the bumps and im likein the idea of say 400 mp3s to choose from ive added two 12" subs with two 2000 watt amps to the hk set up and it sounds pretty ok so have to think about it carefull

I love the picture Fas. Looks like a flyer for the next lock stock movie :D
I don't think you get the full steering wheel controls as you lose the 'fast forward' (search??) through songs facility. I did with mine anyhow. Can you confirm?
