Firstly, A big thank you to Jason of BW Chiptune for all the information and help given for this FREE remap to my 01 330 ci.

Scroll down to the bottom for the very short version ... or listen to my rambles.

I had not intended on going to get my car remapped for the simple reason that I had read online from another car mapping company that you get no real benefit of mapping your car other than it would run smoother and is a waste of money with reference to the 330. For this reason alone I had no interest in mapping my car until I saw Jason’s generous offer and then I dug a little deeper and read through some of the feedback some of the EvoT members had provided. On this I thought I would enter on the chance of winning, never imagining I would.

Basically I was unable to go to Jason’s premises due to other commitments so Jason suggested I post my ecu or should I say dme to him. This option saved me 23 hours of driving to him and probably £250+ worth of fuel costs alone to what would have defeated the FREE remap.

The dme was packaged and posted 590 miles one way Monday by special delivery, Jason mapped and sent back Tuesday. All Jason asked was to cover the cost of posting back. I would have had this back Wednesday and fitted if it weren’t for small administrative error on my behalf “you would think you would know where you live”, but retrieved 08:00 Thursday morning. Jason advised to get any error codes cleared asap and to give the car some stick for up to the first 50 miles as to not allow the dme to re learn any Sunday driving habits.

All I had asked to be done if possible was to give an increase in mpg and to be more responsive. I advised of the mpg I often get when in cruise control and that if it was possible to increase this figure. It was difficult to determine at first because of the heavy rain and wind but it did appear to be no less than normal. I did however immediately notice how much more responsive the car was. The traction control light was on until the car had a 2 or 3 miles on the clock and then I could get on with adding the miles.
Error codes cleared and 130 miles one way in the wind and rain, the car felt like it was quicker, the engine breaking was less and it did not feel lazy but free and eager. The trip home was enjoyable as the road was a mixture of dual carriage and twisty single roads to where the responsiveness shawn through. Regardless of the heavy rain, I had a new confidence in the car to cover ground without a second thought. Driving the 130 miles back was in dry conditions. Where I would be cruising in 5th gear and would often change down to cough, 3rd for the quick overtake it is now feeling awesome and frankly is no longer needed. The engine is much more alert and the car puts the power down better than before, well that how it feels. The gear change is smoother and engine breaking is far less. My car boot was full, axle stand, jack, flat pack and other stuff with my rear seats holding the hold all bag. 105 miles left and with 350 miles or just over ¾ reading on the cars fuel gauge, my car did not feel like it was laden down other than visibly sitting a few inches lower at the rear and the way it felt when breaking. The engine pulled brilliantly with no mid range flat spots, on cold starts and rolling away in first gear, the car no longer has its little splutter that has always been there, it’s gone.

I’ve been away for a quick city drive this morning and on checking the car shows 282 miles of fuel to go with the needle sitting marginally lower than half way between the ½ and ¾ fuel gauge marks. This wasn’t the case travelling from Aberdeen to the Highlands where the car was much lighter and the driving was sporty where possible with only going through a little less than a ¼ tank of fuel (normal in dry weather) from the ½ mark in the driving wind and rain so I’m thinking the car has possible gained between 3-4 mpg. Some of the roads where I did check the displays mpg whilst using cruise control at 55 mph (behind traffic) came up between 39 – 42 mpg where as it would normally come out nearer 35 mpg. It’s been a while since I’ve touched 60+ mpg (only twice) but I had seen between 45 – 56 mpg behind traffic when travelling around 45 mph. I did check the mpg once when on the dual carriage travelling at 72 mph and it was changing between 46 – 48 mpg to what’s really good as at most I’d see was between 32-43 mpg at speeds over 60 mph.

Round up .. Short Version

The short version of this novel is that the car is more responsive, rev’s increase quicker, car pulls better, engines smoother and the mpg has increased. All this has only taken 3 days, dme travelled 1100 miles and only cost me around £13 recorded delivery both ways.

Speaking to Jason on the phone fills you with confidence. He listens to what you have to say, does not make you feel rushed or give you the feeling you are taking up any of his time. Jason was willing to chat and give instant answers to questions or concerns I had for him. He even phoned on several occasions to follow up and get my feedback on his work.

All in all I am very happy with the way Jason has dealt with me and I would not hesitate to have further dealings with BW Chiptune or even suggest him to others.
