Thinking about getting one (the newer one with round airbag) for my coupe, but I currently have the triangular airbag type. My question would be is it a direct replacement, or is there anything else that is required for it to fit?

Cheers in advance,

Raj

depending if you're getting a multi function one or not and if you don't have multi fuction on your existing one, you'll need to get a wiring loom for it to retrofit.

I have a multi function wheel at present (with controls for stereo and cruise). The M Sport and M3 wheels I have looked at are also multi function so I guess I should be good to go.

raj, can u get a pic uploaded of ur current wheel? i did the same triangle to round a few months back, was pretty straight forward, nick's gone thru quite a range of wheels dating back to his 330 days.. so i'm very sure its possible to do, just gets alittle tricky with the air bag connectors and sliprings.. round airbags are 2stage ones, whereas i believe the old triangle ones are 1stage.

Raj, don't think your car is equipped with the 2 stage deployment of the airbag. So even with the later round airbag, I doubt it will work properly, And for something like that I would want it to be 100%.

Cheers Tin and Nick for that. Your right about the triangle airbag only being 1 stage and the round being 2. But I kinda hoped that the slipring wiring loom would take care of that. But if not then I will just have to settle for my suspension for now :D and some BBS LeMans :p :D .

But here is my current wheel Tin:
