Hiya everyone ,
I've read a lot about Evotechnik , so I thought I'd join .
My name is Chris and I live in Luxembourg , although
originally from Wolverhampton .
I'm lucky enough to have owned a lot of cars in my years driving
and my current cars are ;
a '97 E36 Alpina B8 4.6 Touring , which I use daily and was at Gaydon
in case anyone saw it there .
an '02 E39 ACS5 3.0d Touring
and recently arrived , '05 E53 X5 3.0d
Cheers

Welcome Mate.
I'm liking that beastly E36! I thought that engine only came in the E39 Alpina variants.

Welcome Mate.
I'm liking that beastly E36! I thought that engine only came in the E39 Alpina variants.
The engine block originally appeared in the E34 B10 4.0 .
Then BMW were looking for a replacement for the E36 M3 and considered a
V8 , but couldn't get it to work cost effectively on the production line (the
mechanicals have to go in through the top , and not through the bottom because of the suspension turrets)
Alpina then said that they would get it to work , and had to make 42 modifications in the engine bay to make it fit .
Firstly 4 B8 4.0's were made , but they considered 300PS wasn't nutty enough
so bored/stroked to 4.6 333PS/470NM !!
It's the same engine as the B10 4.6 , but has @ 15PS less due to the restrictive nature of the exhaust manifold in the E36 engine bay .
However , there are some cars known , that have been personally modified , that show 385PS .
The engine bay modifications were made on the BMW production line , and then the shells delivered to Alpina for the mechanicals etc to be fitted .
221 B8's were made between '95 and '98 , the rarest being the Cabrio (23) and then the Touring (27)
It's actually quite a practical car to run , can be very docile driving everywhere in 4th using all it's torque , or can be extremely nutty keeping up with lesser Ferrari's,Porsches,Audi S4's etc . I've had a TomTom registered 292kmh on the Autobahn , and it averages 22/24mpg , but I've seen 28mpg with cruise set at 85mph .

I've got one of the B8 , but not of the ACS5 I'm afraid , sry .
Although to be honest , there's so much plastic , it's not very interesting . Unlike the S5 petrol cars , the Diesel doesn't have any carbon goodies .

Welcome mate, nice selection of motors.
On our return from the 'ring last year we decided to stop off for a night out in Lux....ended up in this street where they had 3 clubs next to each other. Dear as f'ck from what I recall, but we were that sozzled we didn't care. The women were pretty nice too :-) but the african bouncers weren't so nice :-(
