View Full Version : E60 535d : Fors and againsts
Hey guys im possibly changing my e36 M3 evo on Tuesday for a 2005 CSL grey 535d, 70000 miles. Its an auto as they all seem to be which im not keen on but could get used to im sure...Ive heard a few horror storys about the twin turbos etc.. Anyone on here any info on them to help my decision on buying one.
Thanks in advance :)

I've owned a 530d E60 and the noise and vibration in the cabin would be a major negative point - especially if you are used to petrol engines.
yeah i read on another local forum about swirl flaps. what are they?

let me google that for you :p

Therefore if you read the site: New mani in 2004 means your model SHOULD be ok (They suggest not; But they are selling their own product on this site. A case of seeing the wood for the trees required I think here... ). Depends if it was built and then not registered for a while though...
For this reason all E90s are "OK" on this issue, to my knowlege; but it was very common on the E46.
Don't loose any sleep over it though dude...
Cheers for that.. :) im sure it will be fine.. I guess the test drive on tue will be the biggest deciding factor for me.
Superb to own, mod, drive, comfort....
My 530d was super cool. I didn't think the diesel vibration was that bad and inside when driving you can't tell it is a diesel. But once modded, it will look sweet and go like a 747 on take off...

My bro's 530d was alright, but not very exciting. But a 535d Sport, with all the toys, decent rims etc and the right remap could be pretty groovy!
Do you really need a diesel though? How many miles a year do you do?

I Love my 530D, could do with a map in the next few months, Only annoying thing is running out of revs so fast in 1st gear.
Other than that i get 450miles from a tank, Avg around 38mpg on a spirited motor run compare to my uncles 19mpg from his M5 on the same trip ha ha ha.
But i still have an M itch to scratch toward the end of next year after the new house purchase and 2nd child arrives.
But I will defo recommend the E60 D power.
Went for a drive in it tonight there and by fuck can it go.. 100mph and ud never think it... very smooth.. £255 more to insure than my M3 which i find odd but then its alot more valuable than the M3, also dearer to tax so the only thing going for it i hope is fuel economy combined with impressive performance for a diesel. Is there alot of differance between a 535D M-Sport AND A 530D M-Sport ??other than bhp? theres another place has a lovely grey 530d with 19" mania jade R 5 spoke rims with 20000 less miles and £1450 cheaper..
As you say, other than bhp (in real terms) the 530d is just as good a car. It will be still superb in terms of acceleration (once you map it). If the 530d is better (if not at least) the same spec as the 535d but with a lot less mileage and money, then I'd go with the 530d. I got some bits you may be interested in for either....
What bits? lol
Currently sat in the garage: M5 steering wheel with paddles, etc; koni/h&r suspension; 2 pairs of Eibach 12mm spacers + longer bolts; iPhone dock with AV module and reversing camera;
20" wheels and suspension will be 1st on my list, spacers maybe if needed. iphone dock sounds good too

Just PM me if you do want any items.
Go test drive the 530d and see which you prefer.
Good luck with your decision.
Well i bought the 535d as the other garage decided without even seeing my M3 he didnt wanna trade in as he thought M3's are too hard to sell so that ruled out the 530d. Picking the car up next week and transferring my B16 BMD plate which will suit this car as it is a big bm diesel lol.
Now i needa decide what 20" rims to go for that arent £3000 like all the really nice ones are like my last i-forge daytonas. :(
Whats the best mm to lower a 535d? saw eibach -45mm front and -30mm rear springs on ebay for £165.
Congrats. Have pm'd you about suspension. Look forward to seeing the pics.
How much does your set up lower the car front and back Raj?

Dont let Raj fool you mate, its a 520 badged as a 530...............
Sometimes he trys to pass it off as a M5, hence the number plate!

The pics I posted up on page 1 (post number 8) is the 530d with the setup I mentioned.
