View Full Version : How to get power from a E90 320i petrol
Hey guys,
My mate has a E90 320i M sport petrol saloon and wants more power out of it, what would be the best way to do this? Had a sprint booster installed yesterday which he is happy with and is now thinking of a remap. Are there any other options?
Cheers,
Michael

lol, I don't understand why people fit a sprint booster and then get a map. I would say get a CAI, exhaust and Map. Will add about 25 bhp realistically.

joking aside - you can get an airbox (available from us or bmw), a decent exhaust setup, power pulleys, then a remap but then after spending all these you might as well sell the car and get a bigger engine car instead!

25 bhp is being very very optimistic. A remap will help. But you may lose power with the CAI unless it has a cold air feed pipe. This is because of heat soak etc. Power gains with a back box = virtually nil. A full system costs lots, and your mate might as well buy a bigger engine IMO

You'd be lucky to see a 10bhp gain on the above mentioned items. Better to save the cash for something more powerful in the first place

you will only get noticeable power from a turbo/supercharger or NOS.

All the above are correct. You just won't get more than Alex says unless you have a force inducted engine. The map will smooth out the power delivery a little and possibly give a few BHP and lb/ft more which will help very slightly and the sprint booster will give it the placebo effect of more power. i would leave it at that or change the car if it is that important.

Don't bother wasting money, if he wants more power, get a different car. Simples.

+1. I've tried to eek more out of a 2.0 petrol before, what a waste of time that was! Spend the money on a nice little holiday instead.
Advice noted guys, will pass message on. I too would think it would cost mega bucks to get substantial power.

Get a friend in an M3 to drive just in front so he can get a slipstream.
OK, so maybe that's the more expensive option.
