After yet another MAF failure...I've decided to run MAFless. Wayne at chipwizards said when the car went in a couple of months ago that he would do an Alpha N custom map(?) . This mean't I could run without the MAF (just in case). He plugged out the MAF and it dyno'd the same on the rollers with it plugged in.
The car this week as started to feel sluggish again and the fuel consumption fell below 20 to 18mpg. I plugged out the MAF and after 10mins or so cars was running a dream. I've come to the conclusion, since relocating air filter, the additional airflow is effecting the MAF. Getting new MAF and sticking it on ebay.
Oh, Gpower has released smaller pulley for charger (another 20bhp). Might be a step to far for the steptronic gearbox (excuse the pun)!!!!

Sounds a bit like bull shit to me. If the MAF(s) fail, then they can run without them albeit not that well. He hasn't given you a custom AlphaN map just in case, it is/was already there. Have a chat with Evolve, they have a map to make e39 M5's run on AlphaN without any additional items so they may be able to give you a permanent solution.

cheers

Excuse my lack of knowledge, might be how I've explained it. The cars AlphaN been mapped. Car dyno'd the same with or without MAF. MAF from BM cost proper money so why keep replacing them when cars been mapped to run equally as well without it?

Litchy, any car will run wihout a Maf, the ECU has pre determined values set incase of Maf failure. The ASAtronic is esentially upscaling the Maf signal to fool the ECU into supplying the required amount of fuel. The CSL runs without a Maf but relies on the throttle position sensor for loading and a temp sensor inplace of the Maf, it's ECU also has twice the computing power of the earlier STD M3's to allow quicker control of fueling.

I don't understand all the fuss about alpha N, it's really not that complicated and race car have done without Maf's for years.

Mike I wouldn't know to be honest, I'm just making a statement thats all. Never liked the crude Asatronic and wouldn't be the first to moan about the MAF's. Yep any car will run without one (if not very well). I guess all I'm saying is I've got rid of both Asatronic and MAF and I'm happy with the results, and so is my car moddin' biggy bank, paying out for both!!!!!
