So i called up Kwik-fit who i'm insured with and declared my mods! They told me they will cancel my insurance in 7 days because they will not insure my car with the bonnet and LM's.

Been calling up lots of companies today and i cant get cheaper than ****ing 3.2k+

Im 27 with 7 years NCB, so this is ****ing outrageous when we have 21 year olds that dont have ****ing pubic hair getting cheaper quotes than me!!!

Im going insane and need some help! Adrian flux wanted 4k ****ing rip off merchents. Companies are fobbing me off saying its a performance car and my alloys are too expensive and sh!t like that??? Theres tonnes of M3s in my area and much better cars like 996/997 turbos parked on the ****ing roads. Im so angry!

Hidesh who did you insure your wheels with?

My wheels are insured explicitly, justed noted in the insurance as mods.

lol mate what happened? It definitely sucks how much mods "declared" costs! But I wonder how many people declare all their mods in the first place?

Best not to specifically declare LMs and instead have the policy state "non standard alloys". Much cheaper this way ;)

Managed to get a quote for 1.7k with all mods declared so im gonna go with that lol

Out of interest, are you required to declare your wheels if you weren't actually going to claim for them if they did get nicked? If all that would happen in this scenario is that you'd put your OEM ones back on then i don't see why you should have to pay extra.

If you want them to be covered then that is different, but what they are asking is ridiculous.

The possibility of wheels contributing towards an accident would be a reason why you would be required to declare. And anything undeclared could vitiate an insurance policy

Ye my exterior mods are really obvious so if im in an accident and pictures are taken, i risk not getting any payouts! But its all good now, so i can relax. SO bloody stressful though, need a beer lol

Fair enough, hadn't thought of that scenario but makes sense even if the chances of it being down to the wheels are remote. Just seems excessive.
I take it thinking along the same lines that any modified brake pads/discs, or anything similar, should also be declared then?
Taking it the extreme, you could argue that an M3 should be running on ContiSports as that is what they come fitted with from new!

It's also that the mods on a car could make it more attractive to criminals, plus performance mods may increase the power of your car which again would add more risk, hence premium will go up. Also if your car is stolen, then the description of your car wont match if exteror mods aren't declared. But i'm sure there are plenty of loop holed insurance companies will exploit if you don't declares, when it comes time to claim.

Funnily enough, my insurance actually went down for my 330Ci when I told them that I upgraded to TarOx 10pots. Apparently these were safer than OEM...:D

Just make sure that the policy does not state that in the event of a modified part requiring replacement as part of an insurance claim that it will be replaced with a standard item. This can be the case in some policies and will be in the small print.

Insurance is a nightmare, i had a claim with norwich union back then and they put a new ACS type 3 split rim costing £640 odd pounds i only declared had the m sport kit on and i had a performance filter and exhaust never said a thing even saw the car. Wheel was bought direct from BMW though. I guess its luck of the draw.
