Squeezing his 15 month old son and all his paraphernalia into a lowered Supercharged E46 M3 with race level decatted exhaust is getting a little too much for Roy now, so we have bought a new baby friendly car ( at least that is what we told laura his wife ! ),

Its a E60 545i Sport Touring.

We have been impressed by it's refinement, comfort and sheer V8 grunt.

So far we have added :
-Tints
-Eisenmann exhaust
-New 19” alloys with Goodyear F1 tyres
-Eibach suspension
-CA remap

Next mods are :
-Big brake kit
-De cat and live map
-Carbon bonnet
-Cams
-Supercharger ???? ( but we will tell Laura that it is the alternator ! )

Any comments or ( polite ) suggestions are gratefully received

Cheers Phil

in the states you can fit a S/C to the 545 but you have to run low boost as the tranny cant handle it I remmber looking into buyin gone for mine when I had my 545 and the guys state side were blowing their boxes would be interesting to see what gains your get by adding a s/c without the box blowing into pieces however I am sure you guys can :-)
i have had more e60's apart then I care to remember so happy to help where I can :-)

The actual problem with supercharging these engines is that no one has found a way to overcome the valvetronic system issues and how to map for it ....until now !!

Two companies did market kits in Europe but soon withdrew them for this very reason.

We just found out one of the engineers we work with is already running a protoype kit on a 545i for 30000 kms with NO problems and completely valvetronic friendly.

Should be on the market in next 3 months....and guess who is getting the first one ? :D :D

Another little update:

New CA Babymobile Demo car gets Nitroned !

Well we are welll on our way with alll the upgrades and modifications that Roy promised himself, his wife and his new baby son that he would not do !

Since our last post we have now fitted :

CA HID kit to High Beam lamps

2010 sat nav

ECU remap ( valvetronic engine is good for about 25bhp gain )

Eibach anti roll bars ( used stock E60 545i version, fits perfectly)

Axxis Ultimate brake pads and Goodridge lines

Full RPI intake kit ( removed the plastic fold down curtains behind the front grills to do this )

NITRON custom – built NTR Sport plus coilover suspension ..the FIRST of its kind !

The suspension so far has put the biggest smile on the driver’s face. The E61 has self levelling suspension, a great set up in terms of what it was designed for certainly, but feels a bit vague and imprecise when pressing on at speed through the twisty bits. We looked into the possibility of adjusting this set up through the ECU, there is some available, but as our technician put it we can only choose between “soft and REALLY soft ! J

The car was purchased with Eibach pro kit sport springs on the front, which gave a nice stance and ride, the BMW self levelling rear system automatically lowerd itself to match the front ride height. A definate improvement over stock suspension, but we wanted something more and rarer.

So we started looking into de comissioning the rear self levelling system, and it was not quite as scary as we anticipated, all the normal spring and damper mounting points are retained on the chassis, and some more ECU work prevented any dashboard warnings. So with all this in mind we approached our good friends at Nitron suspension, who have already helped us and many customers with their AWESOME suspension components and kits, eityer off the shelf or as a custom one – off / new development; they did a fantastic custom job on our E46 M3 supercharged with full NTR coiover kit last year, this kit is stil on the car and performing 100%, we would not change it for anything ( we previously had tried Bilstein PSS9, KW V2, H and R....we prefer the Nitron by quite a margin).

No problem for Nitron, they took the car in, took apart the OEM/ Eibach set up and 3 days later hey presto we have the only E61 Tourer we are aware of that is fitted with this kind of suspension front and rear....and what a difference !!!! Night and day dowes not begin to describe it, the car ‘s ride is definatelly firmer, but not at all uncomfortable or fatiguing even after a long journey; the dampers have 24 way adjustment each, we have set them about halfway at each corner for now. Turn – in is better, with MUCH more seat- of -the – pants communication to the driver as to what the chassis is up to, far more predictable and safe, particularly noticable over 100 mph.

The Eibach anti roll bars also help immensely ( a big fat thanks to Julian at Eibach for those), the OEM rear bar was about the diameter of a McDonalds straw!

The car corners far flatter and smoother now, with grip, poise and turn in vastly improved. We just can’t get over how comfortable this true sport suspension is, just ! Fortunately the conversion ( read ride quality! ) has met with the approval of the all – powerful wife, just as well for Roy’s health too, as a baby bouncing up and down against the roof in the back over bumps would not be good thing we are guessing!

This Nitron kit is now available ( in three versions) through CA for the E60 and E61 models, prices start at 1500.00 gbp inc vat, a bargain considering what you get fro the money compared to other brands. We are also working with Nitron next month to develop a kit for the E39 M5 and will report on that seperately.

The RPI intake kit definately made a difference over and above the anticipated placebo effect, again particularly noticable over around 120 mph when ram effect really comes into it’s own. We may try AFE on it next just to compare.

The Axxis brake pads were a no brainer as stop – gap brake improvement ( Stoptech BBK is due to be fitted next week), offering similar modulation as the OEM pads but with better bite , grip and heat range.

Thanks for looking cheers Phil
