On saturday my wifes beloved e46 318ise is being traded in for a 118dse.

Ok, so it isn't going to get the juices flowing for most of the guys on this forum but we needed to have either an e46 touring or something similar to allow us to transport our dog around as she currently rides up front in the passenger footwell  . The 118d is a cracking drive. The 1 series handles fantastically, and even though it is slated for lack of rear leg room our kids are only 1 and 4 so they hardly need the room. This car will remain very much standard but in the metal it looks really nice, just got to get a tuning box gizmo to release a few more ponies (or should that be donkeys :p ). It is still new and quirky enough to be different and it has a few useful options - looking forward to seeing how good its damp roundabout handling is :D . Hard to refuse the car as it was at such a good price for an eight month old, brilliant saving on brand new :D .

Spec is as below with pics of the very very standard car:

3 folding head restraints
BMW Prof Radio/CD
CD Preparation
Colour coded exterior body parts
Comfort Package
Floor Mats
Metallic paint
Rear Electric Windows

The comfort pack adds auto lights and rain sensor, cup holders etc

Congrats Mystic. Good to see more people exploring new models. The 1-series has an excellent chassis, although the look is not universally accepted, it looks different from the rest of the herd on the road. Nice colour too.

Cheers Nick, the colour is very similar to avus blue which is no bad thing. I really wanted to stay with BMW for the great handling and obviously RWD so choices are limited - I would like to think we made the right one. A nice compliment to my estoril 330 :D . The 1 series is a very colour specific car and in this shade (sydney blue) it really does show off the lines (good or bad) of the car.

Cup holders - being an e46 owner that has to come as a revolution. As was mentioned in BMW car this month, BMW can put night vision into latest cars but couldn't fit a cupholder in the e46.

No seriously, looks like a nice car, have been trying to talk the missus into a 1 series for ages.

They clearly thought that drinks were too much of a risk to the interior. :p

Anyway, I saw a 1-series in the car park at work earlier on and have to admit I was quite impressed with it's look. Slightly bigger than I thought they were, haven't been up close to one before, but nice all the same. Congrats on the purchase mystic, nice colour too. :)

Whats 'CD Preparation'?

I think thats a great choice, i had one for a couple of days last week while my ride was in. 118i standard kit i think, but was rock solid going round bends and putting the foot down was fun.
Big ups if you ask me i liked it alot ;)

Cup holders...absolutely shocking on the E46. Only option for my drink is to remove the ashtray from the centre console and put it in there. Maybe BMW were trying to point something out - an E46 is no place to be eating or drinking!

Nice purchase! I still can't get to grips with the One - excellent interior design and drive, materials a little dissaponting and the looks just plain weird. I am sure it will grow on us with time, but if they had been more conservative with the styling a RWD BMW hatch would have sold like the original Mustang. I cross my fingers for the coupe, lets see what they do with it because the fundamentals are spot on

In the Far East, you can still buy takeaway drinks in a plastic bag with a piece of plastic string tied onto the bag. No need for cup holders, it hangs off the indicator stalk!
