I'm afraid it's true. At the age of just 32 I am not happy with an aftermarket exhaust. I got the supersprint back boxes fitted to the m5 on Friday. It sounds amazing, a great burble and a great scream on full chat, it is even silent at a cruise but after a few days I know it's not for me. I think most people who mod an m5 will love it and it considering the size difference in the back boxes it must provide some flow benefits but I want my silence around town back. So if anyone with an e60 m5 Is interested then get in touch.
Gutted!
PMSL Finnie. I do know what you mean though. I both love and hate the zorst on the M. As you say, great burble, great noise when gunning it but my wife thinks it's way too loud and it would be nice to both leave and arrive at home without the whole street knowing about it...:o

At the ripe age of 25, I totally understand what you are saying.
My Scorpion system is bonkers and love tunnel blasting especially on the way to Heathrow BUT for everyday use, I just find it a bit too OTT at times.
Pssh louder the better. If its too loud then turn the stereo up to drown it out.
Bunch of old men... :p

Old fart here too :D
I had my Eisenmann removed from my former car - Sounded lovely but did my head in. Also didn't like the perception it set with people I didn't know.

Loud exhausts drive me insane. They are addictive when gunning it and can put a big smile on your face, but after a while it just gets on your tits.

It's not even anywhere as loud as the eisenman I think! I wanted a deeper sound a la big V8 but obviously for a V10. I think I actually got it but ultimately I want my silence back
it's in the for sale section and should be ready for posting this weekend. Will attempt a sound clip on thu or Friday

I've seen some force the value to keep fully open on a standard e46 sport exhaust, sounds a lot better.

I Civic type R was redlining in on the A2 along side me up to blue water on Saturday. I must say that stock exhaust at hight revs sounds immense!! I really want one as a every day driver!
It's not dissimilar to the standard valve you got in the E46 330/328 tips. Nice idea I have to say. Finnie go for it.

Thing is, the M5 is actually a bloody well insulated car so you don't get the full effect of the standard exhaust which sounds the bollocks IMHO. i have resisted going for an aftermarket exhaust as I don't think it needs it. If you open the sunroof in the M5 so you can actually get passed all that sound insulation, give it the full berries and listen to the howl of the thing. It really does have a deep bellow at low revs, rises to a lovely V10 thrum at mid revs and positively howls at the upper revs. I actually think that other than what is supplied on the exotic italian cars, this is one of the best OEM setups i have heard for a long time.
My ACS exhaust sounded really good on the M3, but the E46 needed something other than the OEM unit, the E60 M5 just really doesn't need it IMHO.

Sorry don't agree. The Hayward & Sott on my M5 was the best mod I did!!

Got to be honest, I didn't think it was that loud when I heard it on Robin's. The H&S on Graham's sounded like a Lambo.

I loved the noise of the aftermarket exhaust on the M5 when i had it.
By all means it wasnt loud to live with, it was only annoying on a cold engine start as it woke my street up.
