Hi guys, today I received an e-mail from a customer saying that after installing the angel eyes his radio reception becomes poor. Basicaly the problem is when he switches on the angel eyes the singnal becomes poor and the problem is rectified once the lights are turned off.

I know poor radio reception on E36 (especially on older cars) is a common problem as on my old E36 the radio had no reception when I turned on the heater or the heating for the rear screen.

Has anyone come across a problem like this before or is there any good way to fix poor radio reception on e36?

It's a bad earth somewhere. That's the only explanation. correct wiring will not infringe on any radio reception at all.

Re-check the wiring, then make sure that any electrical wiring leading to the lights is earthed correctly.

A good check is to remove the halos, re-install sidelights, if the problem goes away, then it'll be an issue of earth in the ballasts. then just run a check to see which ballast is causing the issue and should be ok

Teddy , the CCFL inverters are high voltage and come sometimes leak EM radiation , which can well interfere with radio reception , esp on E36 .

simply disconnect the inverters altogether , if problem persists then it is NOT ccfl kit . If problem disappears , then swap inverters for new ones , and as Fas rightly says check and re secure all local earth points .

good luck

thanks guys I have sold over 1000 angel eyes kit worldwide myself and have never had a problem like this before. I'll send a couple new inverters to customer and see how he gets on with them.

Thanks again
