Went to a local meet yesterday (saturday) and had a good day, except fot the fact that an ICE CREAM van reversed into the back of my car, on first inspection, oh well, shit happens... On closer inspection it wasn't just the bumper which i first thought... but the bumper, rear panel, both rear quarters, the boot lid and the spoiler....!!!

Absolutely gutted....!!!

And now i have to wait to find out if they where insured...!

how did you stay so calm! lol.

i know where they live...! and that's the only reason....!!!

Better to pay up than somebody to pay a visit and them lose there livelihood... They have at least half a dozen ice cream vans, so i know what the outcome would be....

Lol

Would it suffice to say that you would bring a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Mr. Whippy"? :p

Sorry to hear that mate, that sounds like a right pain the arse. Hope it all goes smoothly for you. :)

Sorry to hear that mate, but why do you have to wait to see if they are insured?, tell your insurance company and get it sorted!!.

If he's damaged the rear quarter panels then it's a very expensive repair and I can't see him forking out 1K cash to give you, thats how much it'll cost to get both quarters done inc labour.

When i said i would have to wait to find out if they are insured, i meant, that my insurance company will find out, i don't think they will be though.

Gutted for ya matey. It is never nice when stuff like this happens. Hopefully it will work out and as long as the repair is done to a high standard then it shouldn't be too bad. It's just the waiting, as these things can drag, that does my head in.

The good news is that i spoke to my insurance company this morning...

They have confirmed that the ice cream van IS insured for any person that is employed by the company...

I can have the car taken to 1 of there approved body repair centres today and have a hire car for upto 14 days while it is repaired...

The downside is that i have to pay the excess in the meantime. Or i can wait until the insurance company has benn contacted etc and then get the money from them including the excess...

Time to go and get some quotes....!!!

You pay the excess up front. The claim can go on for ages. I'm still in the middle of the hit and run that affected my old 330 10 months ago (and I don't even have the car anymore!) Not only I have to fork out my excess until as and when they manage to claim successfully from the 3rd party, I have to pay a premium increment when I renewed my insurance 10 days ago because technically I've lodge a claim regardless of whose fault it was!!

I understand what you are saying, but there is going to be NO WAY they can argue as the car was parked, i was not even in the car, there are a number of witnesses and it was a company vehicle.

My insurance was renewed 6 days prior to this happening, so i'm not worried about that, i have also told the insurance company that i don;t want to claim through them, but use the legal protection for claiming direct from them, and they reckon it could be as quick as 6 weeks...!

It's normal to pay the excess once the car has been repaired, and you pay the repairing garage on collection of your car, however some companies will say that you have to pay the excess up front. this is because they are very slow at paying the repairers and this is the only way that the insurers can get the repairers to work for them. (brother in-law has his own body shop, straight from the horses mouth)

Also remember you don't have to take your car to the garage of your insurers choice, their criteria is cost only and as long as the garage has some form of accredtation ( they have a cat or dog )that will be good enough for them, remember when you sign for your car when it's been repaired, you are signing the reapair off as satisfactory ( subject to your statutory rights as a consumer)

The insurance company don't really need a quote because there are standard times for repairs and materials, they are just hoping that someone will come in under the standard rate.

As lucky bob has said you don't have to take it to one of their monkey outfit garages.

On my previous BMW I said I wanted BMW to do the repairs, they said ok, thats fine, it'll just take a few more days longer as they need to send out an assessor first. Get your car in to BMW mate, these approved garage's have so much work they just rush your car in and out ...beleive me I know what i'm talking about.

It's been agreed with the insurance company for me to get 2 quotes 1st and send them in and for them to chase the other paries insurance before i get it fixed.

So whatever the quotes are is what they will pay. Which suits me, cos there is a couple of other bits i could do with getting done at the same time, so they will price that in at the same time as far as paint goes...

Plus with the show season over i'm not that fussed.

When my last BMW was hit I insisted that the work was done by BMW dealer as it had always been serviced by dealers and wanted it repaired to the same standard.

Got 2 quotes from 2 nearest dealers (exactly the same unsurprisingly) and worked out quite well because the nearest BMW dealer was actually one of their approved repairers. Expensive but that doesn't matter in cases like this as work was spot on.

I have 3 BMW main dealers within 6 miles of my house. And seeing as the spoiler is twisted and has to come from them anyway as it is a ACS it makes sense for me to get the main dealer quotes anyway...! when they pay out, i may well have a mates dad do the work, but then he only does BMW work from main dealers anyway... Lol

But the saving will be good...
