Just wondering if theres anybody on here that knows of one going for a good price and or which one to pick up

either looking at 318, 323,325 or 328. Maybe even an M3 if it's for a good price.

Me and kav looked at quite a few ove rthe last couple of weeks and to be honest I never thought that these e36 verts can be so popular!! We had the a similar budget at about 3k and at that price we found either the good ones have sold before we can get there or the unsold ones were gonna take some hard work. In the end w egot one (328 vert) but the final cost went to nearly 4.5K which was almost mint. Look out for the rust around the arches and the boot area. make sure the roof does work as we had a guy trying to sell us a vert but the rood refused to open!!! He told us his mechanic had locked it shut so that he cant open it when its cold!! Then we had some that had shot suspension or panels that are diffrent shades in colour. Be aware also that there are alot of Cat C and Cat D's out there that are selling for a good price so make sure you ask this question. You gotta hurry up though a sthey are going up in prices as sprin/summer drwas nearer. If you need more info pm Kav ( westside ) and he can help further. I would also advise that you try and find one from year 1997 onwards.

On a 328, how many miles can the engine take before problems start to show??

Torque

the 2.8 engine is mega sweet.

I've seen a 728 hit 200,000 miles with no problems. Depends on how well it's been kept.

When checking the engine make sure there haven't been any head gasket problems. BMWs don't like failed coolant issues (common problem) and this will fry the engine.

Make sure you look for a manual gearbox to really utilise the high end torque of this engine.

One of the main things to look out for in an e36 vert is the hood, interior leaks/seals and the suspension. Listen for any funny noises coming from the suspension over potholes.

Check that the rear prop shaft doughnut isn't worn out too. This can be determined by changing gears very hard like you're about to rip it off. There should be no knocking noise coming from the rear when changing gears.

Finally E36 have the potential for perished brake lines. Another thing to look out for.

Apart from that just be prepared for some tail happy fun!!

The steering should be feeling tight too.

To be honest with a budget of £2.5k you will be hard pushed to find a decent cab which deosnt need much or any work. There are 1 or 2 out there, but with summer hopefully around the corner they are selling as soon as they come up.

If you can i'd save a bit more and buy a decent one cause you may end up spending more than you planned after buying one which you think only needs a few minor things sorting.

As previously said, there are a lot of dogs out there. I went to look at a 323 with Kav a few weeks back and it look fantastic in the pics and it was so bad when we got there we got straight back in the car and drove off without even calling the owner out
