Right the pikey mobile is sold, as is the Range Rover, time for some changes. Thanks to Swiss,or moreover his brother,Tracey now has a little "R" Tigra with 59,000 miles on it,so she is sorted ;) .I started looking for something different but not mega bucks to run  ,anyway I came across some GSi Vectra's 3.2 V6 fully loaded for under £3000 :) .Has anyone had one and if so what was your experience of them?.Dont give me all the Top Gear shit,I've already heard it all, just need real life experiences. Thanks in advance gentlemen :)

I have had Vauxhall Vectra 1.6 and all I can tell you is it was crap :(
All plastic bits in the saloon are very cheesy, the engine is sh**
Fuel consumption was like in my E46 325Ci

This was 2000 model, maybe since then things have changed

7.5K miles in mine in 6 weeks mate and it hasn`t put a foot wrong (save for a hedge :D ) `tho it drinks from the shitty pump. Better car than my E90 IMO but then so was the Mondeo. :p

Apparently you can crack 160 in the GSi and get away with it as long as your only familiarising yourself with it.

i saw one drive past it looked very boring, 3.2 for less than 3k is a lot of car for the money though.

Mark i had the Vectra SRI 140 2.5v6.
Its the version down from the GSI, with the same engine but not tuned as much.
It was quite a good car. Fuel econemy wasnt too bad unless you really booted it everywhere.
I looked at the GSI models before i got my SRI, i think they come with bigger wheels, better bodykit and recaro seats if i remember.
The interior wasnt too bad, very spacious inside, and the boot was fecking massive(i had the hatchback not saloon)
The v6 was nice on the motorway, and the power delivery was quite gradual, not on or off.
I only got rid of it because i got a company car.
If u like it then i would recomend getting it, for a 3k budget there arent too many other cars that are worth it. Not sure of the average prices of the GSI.

Mark I work at vauxhall tbh the Vectra is not a bad car. I dont understand what Clarkson had against the Vectra.

Build quality foir that type of car is not to bad unless you put up against an A4 ect. but the A4 is more expensive. Shocked you got Rid of the pikey mobile lol.

I looked all over for a tigra a few months back could not find a good low milage that was sensible in price, poeple was wanting 3k for a 98 model.

Mark the E39 with VOLK wheels is still out and about in Staines area, I saw it yesterday lol

for 3K I'd look at the cars Swiss found, E39 would still be my top choice due to its reliability, comfort, and of course modding fun but you might say been there done that. E36 M3 would be a good choice but Tracey had one before. E38 is super comfy but maybe a bit of an old man's car and not much modding fun perhaps. 8 series I always liked but again no parts from me.

I am personally biased but I just think you'd have much more fun with cars you are familiar with.

Thats why I chose the 840 as it has a better more reliable 4.4 engine as used in other models. Still for just over 3K thats alot of car and not many around unless of course you belong to an 8 series club

Congrats on the sales Mark - it was worth missing out on Ikea meatballs then :)

TBH I reckon you would get bored with the Vauxhall, and is it possible to mod one without it looking chavvy? I dunno.

There are loads of loony Japanese imports out there if you want something different. What are your criteria, other than price? 4 door saloon?

Black Sabbath

Dan,I guess 4 door would be nice, but before anyone suggests one I'm not a fan of Scoobies,Evo's always look a little nicer I think. The Vectra is still a possibility though, because it looks standard, but a few subtle changes can be done without the chav look I think. Its a bloody quick car and still used by the Police ;) .I've gone past the modding at all costs stage now,but still want to be able to make subtle changes if I decide to.I know the Evo is still something I want to do because it always has been at the back of my mind, not fussed if its been modded or not though, its quick anyway .

TBH the German thing doesn't really bother me,I've had a few over the years :p ,I'm very tempted by the Vectra because of its wolf in sheeps clothing appearance.Maybe some induction work, remap, wheels, tints etc etc,oh shit I'm back in the modding mood again :p :p

I quite like the vectra's

We used to know a chap who had a 01/02 2.2sri with a few tweeks (ex cop car) and my mate used to have a 03 s4 estate.. and it used to do quite well against it.. Which was shocking.. I had a w plate 1.8sxi for a while and regarding comfort i would say it was quite good obviously not on par with the bm but at the same time i wouldnt mind driving one everyday..

I'd say get the evo out ya system. Once you've had it a few weeks you can sell it on and get something that doesn't make you look like your going through some sort of life crisis....:p

I personally have never been a fan of the whole evo / scooby thing. Don't get me wrong they are utterly insane in terms of performance, etc, but they are both seriously ugly looking things.

I personally would get the 8 or the 7. Both are exceptional in terms of kudos and even without modding them they are both sweet (and my comments aren't just the whole it's got to be a BMW thing).

You know Mark the dilemma's I went through deciding what to get but in the end you really can't beat the drive, etc of the old BM.
