hi all.............
ive just brought a e36 320 on a 1994, its been sat for about 6 months so i put a new battery on it and went to start it up but it wont fire so i checked for spark and there wasnt any so i put a new crank sensor on and a set of plugs and it sparks for a couple of seconds and then stops, ive got fuel and ive checked the connection on the crank sensor and thats fine, i think it might be the dme but ive spent hours checking all the wiring and cant seem to find any problems, any help would be great, also it hasnt got a chipped key so its not the immobiliser,
also ive took the dme apart and checked for water damage and theres no sign of water
it has good compression too
any help would be great and there isnt a after market immobiliser fitted

i cant understand why you would only have a spark for a few seconds if it was an imobiliser issue surely there would be no spark at all
is it the same on all six plugs ?
could it be something like a timing problem ?

right we've just had a major debate over this at work !
have you changed the cam sensor ???? or just the crank sensor !
it seems like the cam sensor is a common problem on e36's

it will still run with the cam sensor unplugged but it will run flat so i know thats not the problem......... its got to be a wiring fault

still not sorted this out, ive had my mate from sytner bmw plug it in with the gt1 diagnostics and it doesnt really tell us any problems, does anyone know if putting a non genuine crank sensor in would cause this?
