Just been speaking to a mate of mine whos girlfriend as just told him its the car or her.....!!! She hates what its says (got 16 year old lads asking him whats in it), how much he spends on it...how much time he spends on it....the fact hes always washing it.....she won't drive it....

Would you be packing her bags for her..lol

Wow. Thats an ultimatum I hope I never have to face. Been with the other half 4 years now but this would be a bitch of a thing to have to decide.

I think I might be helping her pack.

Then again taste comes into this discussion alot :D What car is it? If its a chav wagon - then maybe you can understand her POV a little more ...

How obsessed is he with cleaning the car? I can understand the annoyance if he's in a chavmobile with stickers down the doors, in it all the time and sits outside Burger King (hence 16yr olds chatting him up).

Heck, my wife says 'have you cleaned my car'. To be fair I am lucky, she bought me my M3 mirrors and exhaust but I don't complain when she spends the cash on clothing and shoes, and she even asked about getting Carbon badges for hers after seeing mine :D Also, I normally pass the blame on to Swiss, so win win for me - lol

Shit altimatum indeed.

Mmmm I'm on the fence on this...but like others have said what does he drive??

I can empthasise with that blokes missus if all he does is waxing the car and the fact the gf's a hottie....On the other hand, maybe she's not and him engaging in other interests is a sign of he doesn't want to continue in the relationship but he can't physically come to say it???

I'd ask him (your mate) what his true feelings are and go from there......

Ever thought of going into relationship counselling???? lol.

The cars a little chav for some tastes (v fast Focus ST) but each to their own...Don't think its the chav'ness thats the issue. Its a time and money thing I guess. She does think its a little childish men meeting up to discuss the size of their pistons so to speak!! Think she thought he'd grow out of it but he's got worse.
I think what tipped her over the edge is when his mate came round and went through the car verbally (whilst she sat there) calculating (the very thing we most hate) how much he spent. He said she went from "I'm about to faint"-pale to an very angry "I'm gonna cut your b***s off"-red'.

Now she knows why he keeps putting back the wedding date cause he keeps spending his part of the deposit!!!! lol

An interest in cars is one thing, but when it effects your relationships with people/girlfriend etc i can imagine it being a pisstake annoying on the other half.

Saying that if your a proper car guy, your girlfriend has to accept that it would take up some of your time doing what 'car guys' do!

When I am looking to buy a new car I go and take the wife with me. When she says no - I do and look at other cars and buy them instead :D

She hasn't even sat in the Alpina yet

She hated the Z4 3.0

He seems like he has a bad addiction. He should get rid of his car. Its one of having a nice car, and its another to show boat to 16 year olds lol

AND NEVER talk about how much you spent on your car in front of the misses!!! lol :D

What is Litchy going to do if he announces his undying love for him (Litchy). This could go very pear shape Tiko!

"Litchy, im leaving the girl, I'm leaving the focus. Just you & me!"

Now I see why she is pissed, she keeps spending his side of the deposit, how would he feel if she called it all off? If not bothered then may as well choose the car

What your mate needs to do is get married, he'll make more money on wedding gifts to go towards the car :p

I would never let a car affect my relationship with my wife. I simply never tell her how much I actually spend on mods and I get her involved in the decision...

If he is spending the deposit for the wedding on the car then you can't really blame her.

Ultimately, my car is still just that...A Car.

Couldn't agree more... Its one thing having an interest in something or even a hobby! But this sounds more like an obsession!!!
Maybe he needs to book in with the Priory
Have to admit b4 I got married I spent a lot on the car... But that all changed quite quickly after! :(

My modding and car expenses has got worse since being married...lol

You got to have an I interest in life as a reason for going to work each day. However, even spending the kind of money I did on the 330d in the end I still sold it to release some cash so my wife could continue to stay off work to look after our first born. I do think that was one my best decisions as ever since I have been able to go OTT on the modding front...lol.

lol I love the "its only a car responses...." I've never known more 'anal' guys until I joined this forum!!!! The reason most guys on here can say that cause their girlfriends or wives have no idea how much their moddin' costs.
I'd like to hear how someone explains to their other half....
I've just bought this BMW with a M on the back, the brakes are rubbish so I'm changing them for this 3 grand set...
This M thing isn't fast enough so Im spending 8 grand to make it faster...
I'm never going on a track but I'm just about to spend 2 grand on a suspension thats for it....
I've spent over the last year 5 grand on our car but now its worth less because of the 5 grand I've just spent on it.....

My wife is fully aware I have spent a fortune over the years on my cars but I never put it ahead of my family (that's the difference). When I sold the 330d my wife was the one who didn't want me to sell it but my words were 'it's only a car' and the cash was more important so she could give up work to look after the little 'un.

Also, for me anyway, all my mods have been used tontake the car round the Ring...

Other half accepts what I spend at the moment because she doesn't live with me. I can imagine it will change in the future...
