I've heard of people using genuine hella ballasts and the aftermarket ones where they only ignite 7 or 8 times out of 10...

as others will tell you , i am a geek when it comes to HID /Lighting ( ok and most other stuff whre I can :)) , so I will try and be brief and not make you fall asleep :) , hope this helps :

- if an oem ballast does not ignite a HID bulb every time then the 20 ,000 volt igniter module inside is worn and on its way out , it will just suddenly stop working one day .
- usually if a HID bulb is faulty , it wont ignite at all . It i sextermely rare that it would ignite sometimes and not others
- If you are using oem dipped beam HID equipment to convert a halogen high beam lamp to HID this will not work very well as the focal point of the bulb will be in wrong place ...not so critical as on dipped beam but important nonetheless . I may have got wrong end of the stick on your point about this ...
- Our V2 kits have a faster ignition cycle that any other kits I know of , we specifically asked this of the manufacturer as we do many high beam installations and standard HID components take too long to reach full luminosity ; not a problem on dipped beam , but you want high beam operting at full chat fast as possible .
- far as we can determine only our HID kits are DOT and MOT approved .
- generic Bosch , Philips or Osram ballasts were NEVER designed for use in aftermarket kits , only HID specific headlamps installed at factory , halogen retro fit kits require a different spec.

good luck :)
