Got my ICE sorted earlier this year and took loads of pics of the progress. Warning this is a long thread! Enjoy:

FRONT DOORS STRIPPED AND SOUND PROOFED.

First things was to take the door cards off:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0145.jpg

Dynamat extreme was applied on the door:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0138.jpg

And on the inside of the door directly where the speaker was going to be installed:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0149.jpg

All done:

INSTALLATION OF SPEAKERS

Time to install these bad boys JL Audio ZR650s. These were a breeze to install in the passat as no cutting of the door was required as is required in the e46 I had previously:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0193.jpg

Wanted these to be installed on an mdf ring to create a nice anchor for the speakers to fit in and so that they were pushed as far out of the doors as possible as I wanted the speaker sitting as close to the grill as possible to get maximum mid bass into the car:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0170.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0172-1.jpg

The rings and were painted black:

All completed:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0197.jpg

BOOT STRIPPED AND SOUND PROOFED

Next was the boot. All the interior was stripped out:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0139.jpg

Dynamat extreme was added to the right side of the boot:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0141.jpg

And the left side:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0142.jpg

Top of the boot:

Bottom area, spare wheel was removed:

Top of boot lid:

All completed:

WIRING

Next was the cabling. Decided on 0 gauge cabling for the amps:

Battery was taken out first:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/12.jpg

Power cable was pushed through the existing wiring loom:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/2-1.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/5.jpg

Side panels were taken off:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/4.jpg

Power lead was cable tied the existing wiring to keep it nice and tidy:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/6.jpg

Final destination – the boot:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/8.jpg

Rest of the wiring for the speakers, cd changer, RCA leads, Sat nav etc was wired on the other side of the car to avoid interference from the power lead. Starting point:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/2-2.jpg

End point:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/3-1.jpg

Ipod lead was wired into the drawer on the driver side for quick access:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0182.jpg

JL Bass controller was put in the gear console in spare button:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0200.jpg

CUSTOM FASCIA

Had a custom fascia fabricated as the autoleads one was a pile of shite:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/1-2.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/2-3.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/6-1.jpg

CUSTOM HOUSING FOR SAT NAV & CD CHANGER

I had a custom housing made for my navi and cd changer:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/1-3.jpg

Everything was carpeted to match the colour of the boot:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/2-4.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/3-3.jpg

Finshed:

To this:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/6-2.jpg

PUT THE CAR BACK TOGETHER

Doors and panels back to normal:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0210.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0216.jpg

And the boot:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0198.jpg

EQUIPMENT IN BOOT

Now for the Sub and amps. Had a JL 12w6 in an original JL wedge box. In my opinion no box no matter how good the builder is can make the sub sound as good as the people that make the sub! Amps have a JL 300/2 running the components and a 500/1 running the sub. Had the 0 gauge power going into a distribution block which gave out 2 x 4 gauge leads going into each of the amps:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0176-1.jpg

The sub was faced towards the front of the car firing through the arm rest:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0222.jpg

Amps were screwed onto the side of the sub box:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0202.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0203.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0199.jpg

This is how the front of the box looks like:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0215.jpg

I didn’t want to show the install off as it wasn’t much to look at. So I had a wall placed in front of the set up:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0232-1.jpg

Can you see the JL logo:
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k134/aaftabbmw/IMG_0233-1.jpg

Finally to keep with the JL theme had a JL fuse holder put in at the fron of the power lead:

Thank you for reading!!

MEGA

into the cabin definitely in terms of every day bass mate. boot will be louder with the boot open at a show but cack day to day.

Its your sound experience that counts imo, not some ned at a show one day.

Into the cabin on a saloon defo, I've found on most saloons it always sounds better like this.

In hatch's I've found quality sounds the same either way, but is louder facing away from the cabin.

True, everybody has their own ideas about which way is "right". At the end of the day you have to try different scenarios and see which one sounds best for you.

Teddy when you start selling stuff for DUBs i'll come over to yours and you can have a listen! Most of the equipment came from my old e46.

Kav i have the 2 12w6s facing the boot and to be honest i didnt notice any difference with the way the bass sounded, so i left it facing outwards so that the box could be pushed right back flush with the rear seats.
