As for this morning, my o/s/r suspension has developed a knocking noise (not creaking) everytime I drive over uneven surfaces. since the exhaust is on the n/s, I have dismissed a loose exhaust clamp etc., and am tring to find out what I need to do. The shortlist of problems are:
- rear strut mount
- bump stop
- suspension
- wheel bearing
- trailing arm bushing
- anti roll bar bushing
Which of the above can I visually check without taking out the suspension? My car's done 78k, oem SE shocks with Eibach Pro's so I was expecting this kind of problem but will be good to get some technical advise before I start DIY'ing it...

Wishbones I reckon, at 40 mph, brake and listen for the knocking, if its there then I'd say yer bones are nackered.

agreed
could also be rear shock mounts , they are notoriously weak , Rogue uprated items and possibly powerflex bush set will cure all this and provide much longer life and improved handling .
good luck

No knocking when braking at all. Just when i drive over bumps etc. Had a look underneath the car tonight, and also had a peak from the top (boot) and I couldn't see anything wrong. all major linkages were tight and found no split bushes. I hope it's only rear top mounts and suspension at worst...can't really afford to replace the wishbone...

Before I forget, I have some more questions.
- Which part on this diagram is the rear upper mount that is prone to failure (realoem didn't say)?
- Whenever you replace a rear suspension, you should also replace the gasket (no. 9). Is this true?
- If I was to replace the suspension (no. 1) and the upper mount (no.?), is that all I need to replace? or would I need more parts from this pic?
- If I bought 2 x oem rear sports suspensions, how would it affect my ride (i.e. fronts are oem SE)?
